The post holder will join the Knee team at Chapel Allerton Orthopaedic Centre (CHOC) under the direction of the Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons (Mr Anand- soft tissue knee lead Venkatesh and Mr Wall).

To provide advanced clinical and surgical training in knee arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, primary total knee and uni-compartmental knee replacement and osteotomies.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality clinical service to patients requiring knee surgery as part of the team.

To cover additional operating lists made vacant by annual and study leave.

To organise and run departmental teaching sessions

To contribute to the long-term follow up of patients working with the outcomes team supporting one outpatient clinic weekly for long-term follow up patients and selected new patients. These new patients will then be listed following presentation to the supervising consultant.

Contribute to the audit, research and unit meetings

To contribute to the maintenance of the clinical dataset

Submit to peer reviewed journals at least 1 paper each 6 months.

Work closely with the Departmental team, clerical, secretarial and other Trust staff to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated and consistent operational management service.

You will be working primarily at Chapel Allerton Hospital. The Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery provides Trauma and Elective services to Leeds residents and beyond. A regional service is provided for spine and scoliosis surgery, complex and revision arthroplasty, hand surgery, paediatric surgery, foot and ankle surgery and both acute trauma and post traumatic reconstructive surgery.

Job responsibilities

We are interviewing for two jobs, one starts in February 2025 and the second Starting in August 2025 , however we are interviewing for both the jobs at the same time. We wish to recruit a Senior Clinical Knee Fellow (post CCT Trust Doctor) to join the surgical team at Chapel Allerton Elective Orthopaedic Centre for a period of one year.

The successful candidate will be expected to receive advanced clinical and surgical training in the management of knee conditions including arthroscopy, soft tissue reconstruction, arthroplasty and salvage procedures. This is NOT a complex revision knee arthroplasty post. You will be expected to take part in research studies as appropriate and help with the departmental audit and database. Undergraduate and post graduate teaching will also be required.

The Knee Fellow will also take and organise tertiary referrals and take a role in the delivery of the Knee injury clinic. This role would give experience in management of a range of complex knee conditions including patellofemoral problems, complex ligament reconstructive work, chondral surgeries and meniscus pathologies. There are no routine on-call commitments and therefore this post does not attract a banding supplement however, there may be occasions when you are required to alter your working arrangements to support the service to meet its demands.

Chapel Allerton Orthopaedic Centre (CHOC), is a dedicated centre for the diagnosis, management and treatment of adult patients with upper limb, hip and knee and foot and ankle complaints.

The centre has outpatients, theatre services and diagnostics on site as well as associated specialist Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. It has been designed to provide excellent, comprehensive and rapid recovery care for patients.

84 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice 5 years experience in orthopaedics from the start of registrar (ST) or equivalent training make the care or your patient your first concern provide a good standard of practice and car
