The University and Team:
As part of an ambitious Mental Health Change Programme (www.studentsupport.cam.ac.uk/our-mission-values-and-policies/student-mental-health-and-wellbeing-plan-2022-2025) underway since 2021, our collegiate university has delivered rapid growth and strategic development of prevention-focused wellbeing and mental health support. We are seeking a passionate wellbeing professional to join a Student Wellbeing Service (www.studentsupport.cam.ac.uk/postgraduate-wellbeing-advice) delivering impact for students, and the staff who support them, at this transformational time for the University.
About the role:
The Student Wellbeing Adviser's main role is to deliver high-quality assessment, triage and the provision of 'one-at-a-time' psychological wellbeing support informed by evidence-based practice. The role holder will be a point of contact and guidance for student-facing staff within Colleges and Academic Departments, offering responsive professional advice and coordination of student support. They will, as required, support our whole-community approach to mental health and wellbeing by delivering presentations, workshops or training sessions for staff and students. The candidate will join a supportive team and Department working within a stepped care approach, in partnership with a network of College and University student support services.
Subject to recruiting a suitably experienced candidate, this exciting new post is designed with a portion of the remit dedicated to delivering training for staff as part of an emerging training programme in student mental health and wellbeing at Cambridge. As such, the role is well-suited to a candidate with experience and confidence in applying their knowledge and expertise to guide and support non-specialist colleagues or trainees.
Our service is committed to supporting our highly international and diverse student community informed by culturally-competent practice. As such, we seek to represent the diversity of our community in the team. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from minoritised ethnic backgrounds for this vacancy, as they are currently underrepresented at this level in our department.
Benefits of working at the University of Cambridge include:
- An opportunity to be part of a large, experienced, supportive and collaborative team
- Competitive rates of pay with automatic service-related pay progression and annual cost of living increases
- Excellent Pension scheme
- Generous annual leave allowance

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with children and adults' barred lists).
Informal enquiries are welcomed and should be directed to the Head of Student Wellbeing, Dr. Adam Welstead: aw641@cam.ac.uk.
The closing date for applications will be Thursday 29th August 2024.
