St Andrews, United Kingdom University of St Andrews Full time

Start date: As soon as possible

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead on the development and direction of the Careers Centre’s employer and alumni programmes and services, focusing on cultivating high-quality internships, graduate jobs, and experiential learning opportunities to support our students’ career ambitions across a wide range of sectors.

Leading our Opportunities Team, the Assistant Director will work with our Career Management Team, Schools and Units within the university to ensure a joined-up approach to employer and alumni engagement. This will involve creating and communicating a clear strategic vision for employer and alumni engagement and graduate recruitment, developing employer and alumni CRM systems, and managing your own caseload of employer/alumni relationships.

As a member of the Careers Centre’s senior leadership team, the Assistant Director will also make a major contribution to the leadership and management of the Centre, contributing to our culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and ‘one team’ ethos.

Educated to degree level, you will have substantial experience of working in a higher education, business development, alumni relations, or recruitment role, and a passion and enthusiasm for developing long-lasting working relationships with external partners. You will also have an active interest in the global context for our work, as well as leadership experience, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to high quality service delivery.

This role has the potential to be a job-share between candidates who wish to work part-time, and we welcome discussions about part-time and flexible working arrangements.

Employees of the University have access to a wide range of staff benefits including:

  • Annual leave of 34 days, plus 5 public holidays.
  • Financial contribution to relocation.
  • Membership of the USS Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions.
  • A hybrid working environment, including partial homeworking where appropriate and a range of family friendly policies.
  • Subsidised sports membership, reduced tuition fees on degree programmes for staff, access to training and development opportunities including LinkedIn Learning, access to library facilities, salary sacrifice scheme.
  • A range of wellbeing initiatives including membership of Peppy, a health application that connects staff to expert practitioners and personalized support on health matters.

Further information and informal enquiries may be directed to Lorna Dargan (Director of Careers), email: dircar@st-andrews.ac.uk

Applications are particularly welcome from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in professional posts at the University.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience and form a central pillar of the University Strategy.  We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter and Race Charters). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network. Full details available online: www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi.

This post will involve working in our two locations – at the Careers Centre in St Andrews, and at the Eden Campus at Guardbridge, a state-of-the-art working environment for professional services units.
