Assistant Hedgerow Project Officer

We are looking for a passionate individual to join us from 1st October 2024 until 31st March 2025 as our Assistant Hedgerow Project Officer. After an extremely successful start, we are excited to launch phase two of our most ambitious project ever – the Hampshire Hedge project.

You will be required to plan and deliver elements of the Hampshire Hedge project, as well as to work with other CPRE Hampshire projects such as our Countryside Awards scheme and Rooftop Renewable project. You will plan and organise project elements by communicating with members of the public, partners and landowners.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

To work alongside the Hedgerow Project Officer on project elements such as:

  • Survey hedgerows for suitability for hedge laying and gapping up
  • Organise talks
  • Organise events
  • Design leaflets/interpretation boards
  • Recruit volunteers e.g. attend volunteer fairs
  • Process applications for community grants (Community Hedge Fund)
  • Process applications for traineeships
  • Organise hedge planting volunteer days and hedge laying training days
  • Reach out to schools, organise school visits
  • Teach classes at schools about hedgerows


Essential information

  • Location: Hampshire
  • The role is Mon – Friday / 37.5 hours / week / 9am – 5pm.
  • There will be some flexibility around hours with a mixture of home working, in office days (usually Tuesday) and on site work. Some weekend work (once a month, will be required).
  • Access to a car and ability to drive would be helpful.
  • £24,375 pro rata based on £12.50/hr, 37.5 hrs/week: £12,187.5 for 6 month role; with project-related expenses
  • Start date: 1st October 2024 - March 31st 2025
