Central London, United Kingdom Barts Cancer Institute , Queen Mary University London Full time €32,321 - €39,065
About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a lab-based molecular biologist to contribute to deployment of cutting-edge methods to detect cancer earlier than traditional methods. The work will include cataloguing samples and the processing of plasma to extract cell free DNA and the generation of next generation sequencing libraries from cfDNA across multiple clinical cohorts.

About You

Applicants should have extensive relevant laboratory experience or a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a relevant field. In addition, experience of molecular biology techniques such as PCR and next-generation sequencing is required. Experience of working with human tissue samples or other potentially infectious material, at containment level 2 would be an advantage. You must have demonstrable ability to work to agreed protocols and standard operating procedures, have good organisational skills and be able to work independently, as well as within a team.

About the Institute / About the Project

The Rosenfeld lab ( at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London, pioneers new approaches for minimally-invasive molecular diagnostics and analysis of cancer genomes, using next-generation sequencing of circulating cell-free tumour DNA (ctDNA). The group is a dynamic mix of molecular biologists, bioinformaticians and clinical fellows providing a unique environment for development and learning in cancer genomics and translational research. We work with large collections of patient samples from different clinical studies, which we analyse by both genome-wide and targeted methods for sensitive mutation detection. We aim to develop novel tools for cancer diagnostics by developing improved methods and demonstrating clinical utility. Furthermore, we explore the biophysical properties of ctDNA with the aim of identifying its origins and interactions.
