We are recruiting for the role of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Liaison (Health Equality Officer), this role is integral in ensuring that we communicate and engage with our local population.

Main purpose: o Working as part of the Patient Support Hub team, the Liaison officer will provide a direct point of contact for families from the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities accessing hospital services o The liaison officer will work with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure all Trust services are inclusive and culturally sensitive to meet the needs of the communities o Working with the Head of Health Inequalities, develop metrics and measures of care that highlight where inequalities and inequity may be found across patient experience and outcomes o Develop a Trust action plan for developing and improving our services to be more culturally appropriate and responsive o Support our Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller families in accessing information, raising concerns, and advocating a high quality of care for all

  • Degree in relevant area or significant equivalent experience
  • Level 3 Safeguarding qualification

Previous or relevant experience necessary

  • Substantial experience of working with gypsy, Roma, and traveller communities in a variety of settings
  • Knowledge and experience of current legislation and guidance around gypsy, Roma, and traveller communities in health and social care
  • Knowledge and understanding of challenges facing gypsy, Roma, and traveller communities, ideally within a health context
  • Experience of signposting and referring to community support services
  • Experience of providing advice and support to excluded communities

Desirable


  • Experience of complaints management or conflict resolution or mediation
  • Knowledge and understanding of health inequalities and the socio-economic factors that drive these
  • Experience of working with Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities in a health setting
