Job summary

The Mental Health Skills Facilitator is responsible for delivering professional and client-centred learning and development interventions to meet the essential and relevant to role needs of clinical staff within the organisation. In conjunction with the Continuing Professional Development Manager, the post holder will develop and deliver learning and development interventions in accordance with the delivery of the Trust strategy, vision, values and desired culture to ensure that the Trust is equipped to provide a world class patient experience and is a great place to work for its staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively as a Mental Health Skills Facilitator within a mental health and learning disability Trust. They will have excellent communication skills, and welcome a challenge and have a real desire to make a difference to the clinical skills within Trust held by a range of clinical teams. The main duties of the job will include identifying and leading on a range of clinical skills specializing in the Trust specialty of mental health and learning disability including common Mental Health conditions, Clinical Risk Formulation, STORM, Brief Intervention Training, Psychosocial Intervention Training, and other skills, behaviours and competencies as required. The successful candidate will be required to form key relationships with a range of stakeholders across the Trust and beyond in order to ensure that evidence based clinical skills are taught within the Trust.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for a range of a resources within their allocated projects. They will also be required to contribute where appropriate to research and development within the Trust.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will also:

Contribute to the education and workforce development action plan, toimprove overall clinical performance and effectiveness Contribute to the recruitment, induction, and development of clinical staff groups within the Trust. Support clinicians to identify, diagnose and plan to address learning anddevelopment needs through a clear strategic framework and a pragmatic,tailored support to services to enable performance improvement and skillsdevelopment Manage and prioritise their own portfolio of work, consisting of learning and development and clinical skills responsibilities to meet required deadlines and objectives Design, deliver and evaluate learning programs and interventionsacross the Education and Workforce Development Teams subject areas asrequired, including but not limited to venepuncture, immunisation and vaccination updates, ECG, common mental health conditions and other skills, behaviours and competencies as required. Design and development of a range of learning and developmentinterventions including group workshops, practice based learning,competency packages, small group facilitation and action learning sets. Prepare learning and development resources and materials to supportlearning. Facilitate work based learning opportunities such as working with teams on bespoke sessions to meet specific needs, working in collaboration withmanagers and Learning Associates where appropriate. Supports other facilitators, trainers and Learning Associates across theorganisation, providing advice and support on best practice in Learning andDevelopment interventions. Support clinicians in the development and design of competency andknowledge assessment tools where appropriate to ensure that learningoutcomes are measured and there are robust processes for embeddinglearning into practice. Provide advice and guidance to managers and staff on learningopportunities available to meet needs identified, signposting to internal andexternal learning opportunities were appropriate. Provide support, advice and guidance for managers and teams to identifytraining needs for current and future service needs and to developcompetency profiles that support clinical outcomes. Assist in the development and implementation of an annual L&D plan based on the training needs identified and prioritised via the learning needsanalysis. Regularly undertake research and development in relation to L&D including horizon scanning of upcoming good practice, benchmarking with other organisations/industries to add value to our internal L&D services,triangulation of data to provide meaningful analysis of organisational issuesand regularly maintain own continuous professional development. Champion a continuous improvement mindset and a can do approach toensuring the continuing professional development work stream deliversadded value through its services. To promote Essential/Key Skills uptake throughout the organisation, toenhance the skills of the workforce. Design and deliver effective learning and development interventions tailored to the perspective and communication needs of the audience. Demonstrate effective influencing and negotiation skills to achieve effective outcomes Actively communicate through a range of styles appropriate to the situation and acknowledges, recognises and encourages the contribution of others Develop understanding of the wider organisational objectives and plans Communicate complex and highly sensitive information effectively andappropriately Recognise and celebrate the success and achievements of own team andothers Communicate updates, ideas and share developments in order to developthemselves, the team and the wider organisation Provide facilitation skills to improve individual and team skills andcompetencies and to enable people in the organisation to deliver theorganisations objectives Respond to competing demands and changing priorities Ability to prioritise own workload and that of relevant projects in order tomeet specified deadlines managing self Continuously improve own knowledge of L&D practice, benchmarking,knowledge management, and technology Utilise MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a variety of databases to createreports, policies, procedures, spreadsheets, graphs, presentations andguidance documents as appropriate. Travel to meetings nationally, regionally and locally as and when required. Contribute to the Education and Workforce Development L&D planning, the development of the Education and Workforce Development Action Plan and the development of skills, competencies and behaviours to ensure safe and effective services to patients/service users/clients.
