Job summary

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for a Cancer Support Worker to join our team to work alongside the Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist team.

This Band 4 role will be based at St Albans but will require travel to other hospital sites.

We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic and articulate with excellent communication and organisational skills.

The post holder will also be able to prioritise their workload in order to meet competing demands and they should be able to work well within a team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This will involve co-ordinating care from referral through to treatment as well as ongoing follow up care. Included within this will be assistance with the navigation of the patient pathway and investigations for all patients as well as those who are under nurse led active surveillance.

You will have regular contact with people affected by cancer.

This will include support and signposting of patients both face to face and via telephone to ensure effective progress along care pathways in liaison with other colleagues and departments in the hospital.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential

GCSE English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent). Experience in the NHS.

Desirable

Willingness to undertake learning and development courses Coaching or teaching qualification NVQ4 or NVQ3 plus additional training to diploma level, or equivalent through short courses. Registered Nursing Associate Experience in Cancer Care

Knowledge

Essential

Technical expertise or knowledge specific to this role

Desirable

Understanding of Macmillan Cancer Support and other cancer charities roles across the UK Advanced keyboard skills
