Highly Specialist Practitioner Psychologist - Intestinal Failure
This is a role for a Practitioner Psychologist, integrated into the specialist Intestinal Failure team.
You will be expected to work on site at University Hospital Wales, with optional clinics at University Hospital Llandough, and some virtual clinics from home. You will work across the pathway, with inpatients on the wards, outpatients in clinic, hold your own caseload, consult with the team and support the psychological approach of the wider team.
This post also involves specific service development into the wider psychological pathways for gastroenterology.
We are happy to consider applications from experienced Psychologists from working in healthcare settings, or other related fields and where the applicant has both relevant experience plus an enthusiasm to work with people with medical conditions.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Intestinal Failure Psychology Team at University Hospital Wales- a tertiary service for South Wales.
The post-holder will join another part-time psychologist, providing a service to patients, families and the team of the Intestinal Failure Services. The role includes consultation, staff training, team formulation and assessment and intervention to patients and their families. The work is both ward based and outpatients. There is an opportunity to further develop psychological care in this setting via working with staff, service improvement, training and research/audit.
You will be working both in the ward and outpatient setting. The main base is University Hospital Wales with additional time at University Hospital Llandough. You will also undertake some outpatient video sessions from home. Your base will be alongside the dietitians and specialist nurses in IF.
We are looking for an applicant with knowledge and experience of working in medical/ health settings who is willing to work flexibly and develop a service. This post would appeal to an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner, who enjoys working in a dynamic environment.
It is essential for the post holder to hold a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent), and to be a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical/Counselling) Knowledge of, and a demonstrable interest in, applying psychology in medical settings is recommended.

Qualifications
Essential
Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS).
Desirable
Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialist areas of psychological practice. Evidence of peer reviewed publications, presentations at conferences, or similar contributions.
Experience
Essential
Significant and demonstrable post-qualification experience of working as a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist. Holding clinical responsibility for the psychological care of clients' presenting with a range of complex needs Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified healthcare professional and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan. Experience of teaching, training and professional and clinical supervision.

Experience of working with service users as co-producers.

Ability to speak Welsh and a willingness to use this in the context of work where relevant. Knowledge of legislation in relation to client group and mental health.

Evidence of significant post-qualification continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC and BPS. Ability to identify and provide support to carers and staff. Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic presentations. Knowledge of relevant legislation. Well-developed specialist knowledge of clinical/counselling psychology theory and practice, assessment, and the application of specialised psychological therapies related to the needs of people with medical problems. Specialist knowledge of psychometric test construction, development, validation, administration and clinical interpretation of the results
