Cardiff, Cardiff, United Kingdom Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Full time

Position Overview

Advanced Clinical Psychologist - Gastrointestinal Health

This position is designed for a Clinical Psychologist, integrated within the specialized Gastrointestinal Health team.

The role requires on-site presence at a leading healthcare facility, with opportunities for additional clinics at affiliated locations, as well as some remote consultations. You will engage with patients throughout their care journey, including inpatient support on the wards, outpatient consultations, managing your own patient caseload, collaborating with the team, and enhancing the psychological strategies employed by the broader healthcare team.

This role also encompasses specific service enhancement initiatives aimed at improving psychological pathways within gastroenterology.

We welcome applications from seasoned Psychologists with experience in healthcare environments or related sectors, particularly those who possess both relevant expertise and a passion for working with individuals facing medical challenges.

Proficiency in Welsh is preferred for this position; however, candidates fluent in English and/or Welsh are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Gastrointestinal Health Psychology Team at a prominent healthcare institution, serving as a tertiary service for the region.

The successful candidate will collaborate with another part-time psychologist, delivering services to patients, their families, and the Gastrointestinal Health Services team. Responsibilities include providing consultations, conducting staff training, engaging in team assessments, and delivering interventions to patients and their families. The work will take place in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with opportunities to advance psychological care through collaboration with staff, service improvements, training, and research/audit activities.

Your primary location will be at the main healthcare facility, with additional responsibilities at affiliated sites. You will also conduct some outpatient video consultations from a remote setting. Your workspace will be alongside dietitians and specialized nursing staff in the Gastrointestinal Health team.

We seek a candidate with knowledge and experience in medical or health-related settings who is adaptable and eager to develop services. This position is ideal for a motivated and enthusiastic practitioner who thrives in a dynamic environment.

It is essential for the candidate to possess a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent) and to be a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the relevant regulatory body. A demonstrated interest in applying psychological principles within medical contexts is highly recommended.
