Norwich, United Kingdom Norfolk & Suffolk Foundation NHS Trust Full time

Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Psychologist, ideally with experience working at the interface between Mental and Physical Health, to complement existing Psychology provision within an expanding Mental Health Liaison Service in a 1250 bedded Acute University Teaching Hospital. The successful candidate will be part of a Multidisciplinary Team consisting of experienced Medical, Nursing, Psychology and Social Work Staff, with a focus on delivering services to patients, their families/carers and the wider healthcare system that is informed by psychological theory.

Mental Health Liaison Services are expanding across NSFT, and you will be joining a small but increasing number of Psychologists working within this exciting specialism. The successful candidate will join an established team where Clinical Psychology plays a key role in the delivery of services. The psychology provision within the team consists of an 8b and 8a Clinical Psychologist.

The MHLS is a 24/7 service. Consequently, to meet patient's needs, the opportunity exists to work flexibly. Psychology provision is available between and with current postholders adapting their hours to ensure availability. The MHLS Management Team are happy to discuss working hours with the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

Providing specialist assessment and formulation-guided evidence-based interventions for presentations ranging from self-harm to functional or persistent physical symptoms. Involvement in the provision of training and supervision, supporting development of the MHLS, and increasing knowledge and skills of staff within the Acute Hospital. Participate in service evaluation and research projects. Take a lead in the development of psychological services to complement the delivery of care across the Medical and Surgical Specialities. Once of example of this has been the establishment of a Clinical Psychology Intensive Care in-reach service. Ability to work independently, flexibly and under pressure to meet demands of an often-unpredictable workload. Consultancy features heavily in the day-to-day work of the MHLS Clinical Psychologist. Therefore, familiarity with a wide range of assessment modalities and process measures is a prerequisite. MHLS places great value on nurturing skills and experience of practitioners. The successful candidate will be supported to undertake further training to meet the requirements of their HCPC registration. NSFT has an established link with training providers, the successful candidate will be encouraged to provide placements to Trainee Clinical Psychologists from the University of East Anglia. The postholder will have the opportunity to join an established Peer Supervision Group and participate in a national network of Liaison Psychology.
