About the role

We are recruiting for Analytical Support Officers in our team who monitor the NHS to make progress towards targets to ultimately improve clinical quality and patient safety.

The team has responsibility for analysis relating to a number of different data collections. As part of the team, you will ensure that analysis of collections are maintained and that they continue to be fit for purpose and meet policy needs.

In addition to the statistical publications, you will work on internal reports and dashboards to check that these are maintained and developed using appropriate platforms and technologies. As part of this, you will ensure that they meet user needs, alongside more detailed analytical work as required to support policy development. 

Some of your duties will include:

•Supporting colleagues in the execution of new projects, ad-hoc requests and BAU work streams to tight deadlines. Participating in agile ceremonies such as stand ups, sprint planning, reviews & retrospectives.•Employing customer requirements to deliver new insight projects and outputs, with a key focus on data quality. Deploying expertise to ensure appropriate tools, statistical approaches & visualisation techniques are employed.•Developing their knowledge on the data being employed within the Directorate and ensuring it is used contextually. Using this knowledge to interpret results, create detailed reports and visualisations and potential recommendations.
•Supporting in the delivery of statutory commitments, such as publications, dashboards, open data, parliamentary questions, FOI requests etc. Applying knowledge of the data and systems e.g., CMS to meet stated publication schedules.
•Dealing with ambiguity, competing priorities and tight deadlines; working within their team and autonomously to deliver their own programme of work to agreed timescales.

About you

These are some of the skills and experience we're looking for, please use the 'supporting statement' section of the application form to demonstrate how you meet them. We use the supporting statement section to shortlist applications: 

Good working knowledge and experience in the effective use of spreadsheets and databases including use of data interrogation tools and wider functionality such as formulae. Knowledge of industry-standard data management or analysis software, such as MS SQL, SAS, Python, R, Tableau or PowerBI. Working knowledge of agile methodologies or relevant experience or training, such as participating in stand ups, sprint planning, reviews & retrospectives. Experience of supporting the delivery of Business as Usual (BAU) commitments, such as publications, dashboards, open data, parliamentary questions, FOI requests, mailbox management. Applying knowledge of the data and systems e.g., CMS to meet stated publication schedules. Ability to contribute to best practice approaches and innovative ways of working (e.g., RAP and Open Coding) to develop own knowledge and improve efficiency, quality control and reusability of outputs.
