Job Summary  

The post-holder will be part of our People and Places Activity, working in the National Nature Reserve (NNR) team to develop and deliver commercial aspects of our visitor management activity with a focus on increasing visitors’ contributions. NatureScot manages reserves across Scotland where we provide high quality visitor facilities to help people responsibly enjoy the best of Scotland’s wildlife. We are looking to trial new approaches and services that will help to support our work in valuing and caring for nature. A key focus of the post will be to develop, manage and trial car park charging at a selection of NatureScot National Nature Reserves. 

Key Responsibilities  

Leading and project managing a pilot to test charging for parking and overnight stays at NatureScot managed sites.  Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements associated with the introduction of car park charging and income generating activities. Developing and implementing communication and messaging for internal and external audiences including online and on site.  Working with NatureScot corporate teams to ensure any new processes and systems for income generation fit with NatureScot’s procedures.  Working with reserve managers and property team to purchase, install and manage charging mechanisms. Dealing with any planning requirements for installations. Implementing effective engagement and communications activities with internal and external audiences.  Producing guidance and support for reserve managers and operational staff. Contributing to the development of a strategic plan for income generation, including innovative approaches. 

Skills Required  

Experience of developing and managing income generating public services or approaches. An understanding of tourism and visitor management in the countryside including visitor services.  Experience of working with public bodies, non-governmental organisations and private sector businesses and representatives in a visitor management and environmental context. An ability to engage effectively with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders and interests. Good organisational skills that enable setting realistic work priorities and ensure deadlines are met.  Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey new policy approaches to different audiences with authority and tact. A flexible approach, outlook and people skills to be a good team worker, willing to get involved to deliver the required outputs. 

An ability to work under their own initiative and within multi-discipline teams to drive forward projects at pace will also be important.
