Job summary

Older Peoples medicine (OPM) is a specialty that has evolved in recent years to meet the needs of the growing population of people over the age of 80 years old.

Dunston Ward is one of 5 OPM wards within the trust. We are 37 bedded acute ward, caring for patients with complex cognitive impairment/delirium and or with complex care needs and providing palliative care for patients who are at the end of their life.

We are currently recruiting for 2 deputy sisters/ charge nurses. One position is for 24 hours per week, substantive post and a second full time post is fixed term for 11 months.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisation skills which you will draw on when you coordinate the team and actively participate in our MDT approach. You will be supported to use leadership skills to create an environment that is safe and supportive to ensure effective teamwork and a motivated, efficient workforce. We will support you in achieving your licence to lead accreditation.

Main duties of the job

The deputy sister/charge nurse role requires you to take charge of the clinical area and to monitor the clinical activities of the nursing team in the absence of the Ward Sister. To ensure that all staff adhere to Trust policies and the principles of their professional body.

You would be expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of your work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence while demonstrating behaviours that support/ encourage an inclusive culture. The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate a passion for delivering high standards of care for our elderly patients.
