Job overview

We are seeking applicants for an ST1-2 Trust Grade (SHO Level) position at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) in Queen Square and/or the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy. The role offers the opportunity to gain experience in various neurological subspecialties, including stroke, epilepsy, and movement disorders.

Although not recognized for formal training, postholders will have access to the same teaching sessions as CMTs. The position includes rotations between inpatient ward work and the daycare unit, with shifts covering both standard hours and on-call duties.

Prior UK hospital experience in general medicine is preferred.

Main duties of the job

1. Patient Management : You'll be responsible for the care of inpatients with various neurological conditions, such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinsonism, and dementia. Your tasks will include evaluating patients, diagnosing their conditions, developing treatment plans, and monitoring their progress during hospitalization.

2. Ward and Daycare Responsibilities : You'll rotate between duties on the inpatient ward and the daycare unit, ensuring comprehensive care for neurological patients. This includes conducting ward rounds, working with multidisciplinary teams, and maintaining consistent patient care.

3. On-Call Responsibilities : You’ll be scheduled for on-call shifts, including overnight duties at NHNN, where you'll manage neurology inpatients without a registrar on-site, requiring strong clinical judgment.

4. Teaching and Education : You'll take part in daily educational sessions, such as grand rounds, case discussions, and tutorials led by consultants. These sessions aim to improve your clinical skills, particularly in preparation for MRCP PACES, with two sessions per week being protected for this purpose.

5. Collaboration and Supervision : You will work in close collaboration with consultants, fellow doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. A designated educational supervisor will support your development, and you will document your progress in an electronic portfolio.
