Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Education Mental Health Practitioner/Children's Wellbeing Practitioner/Mental Health Practitioner within our Mental Health Support Teams across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. The MHSTs sit within the BeeU Service. The Bee U service is a partnership between Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust and other organisations, such as Kooth, Healios and SYA. We all work together in multi-disciplinary teams in the interests of children and young people across the locality.

With 1 in 6 school children having a mental health problem the role delivers on the proposals outlined in the 2017 Government Green Paper 'Transforming Children & Young People's Mental Health,' providing early intervention and support and promoting whole school approaches to mental health wellbeing. Since 2020, the MHST offer has grown year on year through Bee U and we currently have five teams serving a number of schools across the region.

The Teams sit within the 'getting help' aspect of the Thrive model and work closely with our Bee U colleagues, who deliver specialist CAMHS and assessment will be involved with supporting the implementation and development of the MHSTs, embedding our services within our designated schools. We work from clinic bases and schools across the region to ensure our service is accessible to as many children, young people and families as possible, so flexibility to travel is integral to this role.

Main duties of the job

You will work with your colleagues to deliver the three core functions of Mental Health Support Teams. You will hold a caseload, undertaking assessments and offering brief evidence based interventions for children and young people presenting with mild to moderate mental health needs. This will include one to one support and group work, with children, young people, parents and carers.

You will also work collaboratively with schools, young people and their families and offer advice, consultation and training to staff within schools and other agencies where appropriate.

There is scope for creativity to promote mental health and implement the Whole School Approach within school settings and the community. This will includeopportunities for co-production with young people and parents and collaboration with school staff and partner agencies.
