We're recruiting to the post of Improvement and Assurance Lead - Safe & Compassionate Care (Patient Safety Specialist) and are seeking an exceptional clinical leader to join us. You will be a senior professional with a clinical qualification and preferably experience in mental health and/or learning disability, who is passionate about delivering and sustaining patient safety improvements within a NHS provider Trust.

As the Trust lead for safe and compassionate care and the Trusts patient safety specialist, your role will span the whole organisation and wider system partners helping us to continue our journey to delivering outstanding care and treatment for the people who access our service and a fantastic working environment for colleagues.

A strong knowledge and experience of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, ergonomics and human factors, quality improvement and PSIRD are essential. Additionally, a good knowledge and experience of working with incident reporting and management systems is needed.

Main duties of the job

To lead the patient safety agenda for the organization working closely with the Quality senior leadership team, Quality Improvement & Assurance Leads and Matrons across the organisation to create an environment which promotes and maximises likelihood of safe and therapeutic care provision for our patients, staff and visitors.

To provide professional leadership for all aspects of patient safety, quality improvement andinnovation across the Trust. The post holder will also be the formal named lead Patient Safety Specialist in the organisation leading on or directly supporting patient safety improvement activity, ensuring that systems thinking, human factors understanding and just culture principles are embedded in all patient safety processes.

Be responsible for the implementation of the Trust and NHS patient safety strategy within the organisation, providing patient safety expertise/leadership, demonstrating compassionate leadership, visibility and supporting the continued development of the patient safety culture.

To provide assurance to the Director of Nursing and Quality that the organisation is delivering safe and compassionate high-quality care against the set quality standards and outcome measures and hold responsibility for providing a continuous quality improvement approach.

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to Masters degree level or equivalent knowledge through experience Strong evidence of continuing personal & professional development. oMental health and/or Learning disability clinical qualification with relevant professional registration eg HCPC, NMC, GMC)

Desirable

Quality improvement methodology training Leadership qualification Investigation skills including Systems based reviews Project management training

Experience

Essential

Ability to translate strategic goals into effective and achievable operational plans Effective negotiating and influencing skills - ability to effectively manage critical relationships Leadership (including through influence), vision, strategic thinking and planning with highly developed political skills.

Personal or lived experience of mental health, learning disabilities, dementia or autism Service improvement or change management programme delivery in the NHS. Understanding of current NHS (and other healthcare system) policy and development
