Job summary

Are you a motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious Neonatal Nurse? Then we would love to hear from you. We are the Special Care Baby Unit based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

Our Neonatal unit provides 2 high dependency cots and 8 special care cots, along side SCBU and a neonatal outreach service is also available. The unit currently provides short term intensive care, high dependency care and special care. Our team is highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals, who are passionate about delivering a provision of high quality service to babies and their families.

Please note that we can only consider applications from individuals with a live NMC registration or UK nursing students awaiting their PIN, as we are currently unable to support OSCE.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated neonatal nurse (RGN/RSCN/Child Branch) with post registration neonatal intensive care qualification) to join our friendly experienced team. You will have excellent clinical and communication skills. The successful candidate will lead/coordinate shifts, be able to work well independently and within the team.

They will also enjoy teaching and supporting junior staff as well as pre-registration student nurses.

This post involves a day/night rotation.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Be self- motivating in ensure the delivery of effective and sensitive evidence based care to a high standard at all times. To act as a role model to more junior members of the team. Be confident and competent in all areas of nursing practice within sphere of responsibility, enabling delivery of total patient care. Assess the needs of patients within the clinical area, plan and implement individualised holistic nursing care. To act as an advocate for patients wherever they are within the Trust and hospital setting and to advise colleagues on all matters concerning the nursing care of patients. Play an active role in health promotion activities. Ensure that Trust policies and procedures are complied with within the unit, informing the ward manager of matters, which affect the implementation of the agreed policies. Ensure that standards recommended by professional bodies such as the NMC are adhered to and upheld within the unit. Comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional practice.

Education and Qualification

Essential

Registered Nurse Adult or Child Qualified in Speciality (Neonates), ENB 405 or equivalent Minimum 2 years post registration experience on a neonatal unit at Band 5 Evidence of Neonatal Advanced Life support training Evidence of Standard of Student Supervision & Assessment training Experience of supporting and teaching junior colleagues

Desirable

Participation in a leadership programme Edward Jenner / Mary Seacole ENB 997/8 or relevant teaching qualification Participant or willingness to take on project work as lead or active participant Evidence of Appraisal training

Knowledge

Essential

Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing within this clinical area Knowledge of NMC Codes of Conduct and/or guidance of professional practice Awareness of Health and Safety and Risk Management Strategies Ability to demonstrate knowledge of child protection issues.
