Main duties of the job

The role:

We are seeking to recruit a Team Lead for the in house care role will involve working in a co ordinated way withother Team Leads to oversee the day to day running of the care will include overseeing the off duty rota,management and planning of both planned and unplanned admissions, overseeing the delivery on symptom management and EOL care,taking responsibility for areas of governance and audit and line managing a small team of nurses and support workers, in addition to looking at ongoing opportunities for service development.Working in the Team Leader role, you willlead with enthusiasm to support a resilient and motivated team,delivering a high standard of holistic care.

From 1st April 2022 all direct care provision and/or close contact roles at Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice require full COVID vaccination as a Condition of Deployment. The role of Nurse falls into this category.

Job responsibilities

Main purpose of thejob:

As a Bluebell Woodnurse team leader, you will:

Provide clinical andprofessional leadership to the care team, supporting to the day-to-day runningof

the hospice, with focuson ensuring a high standard of holistic care.

Provide linemanagement to a multiprofessional group of staff.

Work with theclinical leadership team, supporting the operational development of thehospice, with

specificresponsibilities for governance and quality assurance.

Clinical:

Ensure high quality,evidence-based care is offered to babies, children and young people (children).

To collaborate withCare Leadership Team to identify the common issues which affect the quality ofcare, devising clear action plans to address any shortcomings ensuring agreedaction is undertaken.

To care for childrenwith a wide range of complex clinical needs and technology dependence (egventilation, tracheostomies and enteral feeding devices)

To ensure thatadvance care plans (CYPACPs) are completed in a timely and appropriate way.

Act as an advocatefor families whilst also empowering families and encouraging parentalparticipation in care.

Attend the AssessmentPanel as required and carry out the required follow-up work, including theassessment of children referred for care.

Have up to dateknowledge of safeguarding procedures and support referral processes.

Audit and serviceimprovement:

Lead a named area ofgovernance, as part of the Care Leadership Team.

Perform qualityassurance audits and evaluations

Ensure the clinicalnursing practice is research based and develop nursing practice with the staffteam using evidence based models of care, which combine theory and practice.

Assist the SeniorCare Leadership Team with updating or writing new protocols, policies andcompetencies.

Support the clinicalgovernance agenda within the hospice.

Leadership:

Contribute towardsquality and improvement initiatives being undertaken, as directed by the CareTeam Leaders.

Report near missesand untoward incidents, complaints, clinical emergencies, injury or medicineadministration errors, as outlined in the hospice policies and procedures andinvestigate incidents as delegated by Head of Care

Manage the booking and allocation of plannedshort breaks

Management ofstaffing levels in line with policy guidance

Line manage a namedgroup of staff, including responsibility for appraisals and related HRprocesses

To participate in therecruitment of staff

To undertake HRprocesses that enable the day to day running of the hospice (sickness reportingetc.), as a shift leader

Education:

Actively assist inthe education and practical training of colleagues, students and trainees.

Supervise andorientate learners and new staff.

Participate insurveys, audit, research and facilitating clinical trials as required.

Assess students onplacement, in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Governance:

To welcome andrespect diversity and contribute positively to anti-discriminatory practice,actively promoting equality and diversity.

Ensure a consistentapproach to all aspects of care delivery by following protocols and prescribedcare, recommending changes to advance practice.

Report allincidents/accidents and near misses in line with reporting procedures tofacilitate opportunities to advance practice and investigate any incidents delegatedfrom the Head of Care

Actively contributeto employee consultation around policy and procedure development and highlightany areas of concern or suggestions for improvement.

Professionalrequirements:

Comply with therequirements for NMC Revalidation, identifying own learning needs and ensuringown professional development is maintained by keeping up to date with practicedevelopments.

Participate inclinical supervision and appraisals.

Successfully completerequired competences as defined by Bluebell Wood.

Experience

* Experience of supporting end of life using pathways and advance care planning, *Experience of leading a team of staff/line management, *considerable experience of working with children and young people who have palliative or complex health needs, *experience of supporting learners in practice.

*Significant experience of symptom control/management in children's palliative care.
