This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Clinical Psychologist to join our Norfolk & Waveney Perinatal Community Mental Health Team. We would consider a Band 7 to 8a preceptorship for a newly qualified psychologist.

We are a compassionate and supportive team, dedicated to improving infant and parental mental health and wellbeing through pregnancy and postnatally.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in working with attachment, perinatal distress and trauma. The successful candidate will have the ability to assess and formulate the mental health needs of women in the perinatal period, while also holding in mind the mother-infant relationship, the needs of the baby, the father and the wider family. Previous experience of working with this client group is desirable but not essential, as is training and experience in delivering either Trauma-focused CBT or EMDR.

Our main bases are located at Hellesdon Hospital and the Julian Hospital in Norwich. Travel to other sites across Norfolk & Waveney will be required.

Main duties of the job

The role is exciting and varied, including offering specialist assessment and formulation, individual therapy, couple and family interventions, parent-infant work, group therapy, consultation, supervision, research and service development.

The successful candidate will be welcomed into a skilled, passionate and dedicated MDT including psychologists, psychotherapists, nursery nurses, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, peer support workers, social workers, case managers, clinical nurse specialists and senior managers. We offer high quality supervision and will support access to training and continuing professional development.

The team accepts referrals for cases of moderate to severe perinatal distress, and referrals to psychology include antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression, providing trauma-informed care guidelines, birth trauma, post-partum psychosis and concerns about bonding / attachment. Therapies and interventions offered include CBT, EMDR, CFT, CAT, family work, parent-infant therapy, Video Interaction Guidance, Circle of Security and Newborn Behavioural Observations. We also have a well-developed group programme including a Living with Emotions (DBT skills) group and a Compassion Focused Therapy group.

Job responsibilities

We work closely with the Kingfisher Mother & Baby Unit and the Lotus Maternal Therapeutic Outreach Service. The role will involve liaising with other professionals and healthcare teams, supporting families with significant levels of safeguarding risk. This includes midwifery, health visiting, social services and other mental health teams.

The service has strong links to the UEA Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Training course and as such, there will be opportunities to supervise Clinical Psychology trainees on placement within the service, in addition to offering clinical supervision to multi-disciplinary team members.

Qualifications

Essential

Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS Ongoing further specialist training/accredited short courses Supervisor training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme clinical psychology trainees or willing to undertake training Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Experience

Essential

Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems. Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment. Experience of supervision and teaching.
