Young People Support Worker

We have new roles on offer to work in an innovative project commissioned by the Greater London Authority (GLA) to tackle and prevent young people rough sleeping.

Position:  Young People Support Worker

Location:  Islington, London

Contract : Permanent

Hours:  Part-time (15 hours per week, weekends)

Salary:  £27,636 per annum pro rata (ILW) Plus Pension and Other Benefits

About the Role

As a Young People Support Worker, you will work as part of a team delivering the Youth Hub, an innovative pan-London accommodation service for young people (aged 18-24) who have slept rough or are at risk of doing so. The focus of the service is to reduce the number of young people sleeping rough across London and quickly move young people into appropriate longer-term accommodation. The aim is to ensure that every client leaves a Depaul service with the skills and resilience to be confident and self-determining in their lives.

Working under the direction, guidance and support of a manager you will be responsible for a caseload of clients and share responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all clients, volunteers and staff in the service . This new role is composed of 7.5 hour shifts on weekends, postholders need to attend mandatory training on weekdays and complete online training at a time of their choosing, for which they will be paid .


Key responsibilities include:

You will always ensure the safety and well-being of clients in the service possible including using safeguarding and emergency alert procedures as applicable, You will carry a caseload of clients for whom you will be the named key worker, and you will also take joint responsibility with your team members for the well-being and day-to-day support of all clients in the services You will lead on risk and needs assessment and support planning for your key clients and contribute to ongoing needs and risk assessment of other clients in the service You will deliver one-to-one and group support opportunities within their accommodation and in the local community aimed at increasing resilience in the clients we work with.

About You

You will have experience in managing a service in a support setting with a focus on continuous improvement in working with young people with complex mental health needs.

You will need to have the following skills and experience:

Experience working with the client group An understanding of the needs of people who have experienced homelessness, poor mental health, substance use A knowledge and understanding of Risk Assessments and Support Planning. Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding requirements and procedures
