Band 6 Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgical Dietitian post.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our gastrointestinal (GI) surgery dietetic team at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in a full time ( permanent band 6 role.

The successful candidate will be part of the GI surgical team made up of a Band 8A, WTE B7, WTE Band 6 and 2 WTE band 5 dietitians. The post holder will support the delivery of a specialist dietetic service to UGI surgery for both in and out-patients.

Main duties of the job

The post will be focused, particularly in the dietetic management of patients with oesophagogastric surgery (malignant and benign). You will need significant knowledge of nutrition support, surgery and/or oncology to deliver an expert dietetic service.

The important role of nutrition is valued and well recognised by the gastroenterology medical and surgical teams.

Job responsibilities

- To be a member of the dietetic team responsible for the nutrition anddietetic management of patients who are having or have had UpperGastrointestinal (GI) surgery.- To be responsible for Upper GI Surgery patients receiving oral, enteraland parenteral nutrition support on the St Thomas Hospital site as inpatients on the ward as well as in outpatient clinics.- To provide dietetic support to patients with oesophagogastric cancerundergoing the surgical treatment pathway and during their longer termfollow up with a focus on addressing the survivorship needs of thisgroup.- To work closely with the oesophagogastric cancer MDT to ensureseamless holistic care and monitoring of patients withoesophagogastric cancer.- To manage the setup and monitoring of a caseload of patientsrequiring home enteral feeding and liaise appropriately with localcommunity support teams.- To support the ongoing monitoring and development of the Upper GISurgery Enhanced Recovery Programme.- To provide expert dietetic advice to the multidisciplinary team throughattendance and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings andward rounds.- To provide expert advice to clinicians, patients and carers regardingprovision of nutritional support for patients based on clinical will involve nutritional assessment, to include the calculation ofnutritional requirements based on the interpretation of biochemistry,anthropometry clinical condition and other physical parameters.- To initiate and participate in regular research and audit in line withdepartmental and MDT procedures.
