Project Archivist

London, United Kingdom Southbank Centre Full time

We are looking for a Project Archivist (Catalogue) to join our Heritage and Archive team in the Creative Engagement department on a full-time, 18 month fixed term basis

The Southbank Centre Archive comprises more than 3000 boxes / 1.5 kilometres of documents, photos, objects, recordings and born-digital material which together tell the story of the Southbank Centre since its 1951 Festival of Britain inception. The collection continues to grow, increasingly in digital form.

From 2024 we have begun implementing a new, long-term vision for the archive alongside our Creative Engagement programme strands. We are currently focused on establishing new ways to celebrate our heritage and creating new routes into the collection for the public ahead of the 75th anniversary of the centre in 2026.

The Project Archivist Cataloguer will provide a critical role in developing and shaping a new archive catalogue for the service, hosted on Access to Memory (AtoM). Working closely with a newly hired data cleanser, the archivist and Southbank Centres IT team, they will lead the development of the new software with an aim for public launch. Alongside this, they will build and start to undertake detailed cataloguing priorities for the collection, including the creation of authority records and a performance database. The role will provide an opportunity to organise, describe and make accessible a large mixed collection to new audiences.

Please review the attached job description for the full list of role responsibilities and person specification.
