Job summary

The postholder will work in the Commercial Capability and Best Practice team of the Central Commercial Function (CCF) within Commercial Directorate as part of a dynamic, multi-disciplined team.

The NHS is one of the biggest commercial "organisations" in the country, buying on behalf of the fifth biggest employer in the world. Clinicians rely on NHS commercial teams to buy the goods and services they need, making them critical to the delivery of patient care.

Commercial activity covers all supplier-related activity, including procurement of products and services, income generation and supply chain management, and plays a central role in ensuring the financial stability of the NHS. The scale of NHS commercial activity is significant, with around £35 billion spent every year with over 80,000 suppliers.

The CCF will support and drive the NHS commercial strategy that binds the NHS commercial community, drives collaboration across commercial teams, leverages NHS collective buying power or provides a clear, consistent guideline on how to contract with the NHS.

The aim of the CCF is to provide, develop and continually enhance a series of service offerings, building on the benefits for: Patients; Clinicians; Taxpayers; Suppliers & NHS Commercial.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Associate Director of Commercial Capability and Best Practice you will join a small team in the Central Commercial Function of the Commercial Directorate at NHS England.

As Commercial Implementation Manager you will support the teams to ensure that the work stream of programmes are planned and managed effectively and take the lead in assisting in their successful delivery.

The role will support activity to provide guidance to the NHS commercial community on policy and continuous improvement to support best in class procurement services. Additionally the role will support the commercial capability programme, delivery of learning and development activity and agenda.

This role will also support the delivery of the Strategic Framework for NHS Commercial specifically the interventions relating to best practice and continuous improvement/development.

The candidate should have procurement experience, and knowledge of the Procurement Regulatory framework, including horizontal policies.

The post holder will be required to support the business in driving transformation as well as value for money in planning, commissioning and service. The role is designed to support colleagues to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery.

Experience of working in a commercial environment and implementing change Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments. Experience of managing risks and reporting.
