Commercial Lead - Clinical Services Category

The Commercial Delivery team has responsibility for all NHS England commercial activity for 3rd party spend, across all areas of the commercial lifecycle including Market Management, Commercial Strategy, Procurement, Contract Management and Strategic Supplier Relationship Management.

The scale of the team is significant with responsibility for over 4,400 live contracts with a total lifetime value of over £14bn and a pipeline of over 2,000 procurements with estimated values of over £11bn. This is one of the largest and most complex commercial portfolios across government and gives colleagues the opportunity to work on high value and high complexity commercial delivery that has a direct and positive impact on patient care.

The Commercial Lead in the Clinical Services Category Team will be a good fit for someone with contract management and commercial experience, who is looking to drive strategic and positive commercial outcomes to Directorates and managing complex commercial arrangements.

This role will play a pivotal role in the NHS England Commercial Delivery team. It will handle the management of some key contracts and play an important role in ensuring Contracts are managed in one with the NHS England Contract Management Framework.

This role will be based in Leeds at Wellington Place, or London at Wellington House

Main duties of the job

Managing a portfolio of complex and strategically important contracts and suppliers throughout the commercial lifecycle Monitoring contract performance, deliverables and obligations and holding suppliers to account where the supplier fails to meet the requirements of the contract Providing commercial advice and guidance to colleagues in programme and business areas responsible for managing contracts Support the Commercial team and wider stakeholders to identify and manage commercial risks and issues in a timely and effective manner. Develop commercial understanding and competence across your area of responsibility Work closely with colleagues across NHS England, building trusted collaborative relationships ensuring the commercial team is engaged early and throughout the commercial cycle. Build and maintain an understanding of relevant markets and business context relevant to the category to inform and support the development of commercial options

Job responsibilities

As a Commercial Lead , the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team and play a key role in managing our supply base effectively and be instrumental in delivering successful commercial outcomes while making complex and challenging decisions across NHS England.

This role is for someone with significant experience, strong strategic outlook and excellent leadership attributes who is looking to take the next step towards senior level accountability within a fast paced, highly professional Commercial Directorate. The right candidate will have the perfect opportunity to obtain first class experience with a wide breadth and diversity of requirements and disciplines. The role requires demonstrable commercial experience operating with a diverse group of senior stakeholders and have effective consultancy skills to gain credibility quickly; understanding and digesting complex and detailed information in order to offer advice and expertise and have that well-received through strong stakeholder engagement. You must demonstrate the rounded communications and engagement skills that is likely to result in successfully influencing outcomes.

Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area. MCIPS accreditation or evidence of equivalent level of experience IACCM Expert status or evidence of equivalent level of experience Evidence of specialist knowledge over a number of disciplines and commercial practices and procedures

Highly developed communication skills with the capability to analyse, review and make sense of highly complex, sensitive or contentious information across a diverse range of subjects relevant to post portfolio.
