Job summary

As a senior programme officer, you will report to the reward programme manager and will lead on and support deliverables of the Reward work programme that sits within the Pensions and Reward team.

As a team, we encourage and support employers to design and communicate innovative and inclusive rewards and benefits strategies across their organisations. A comprehensive and well understood total reward offer helps employers to attract, recruit and retain staff, aligning to the NHS People Plan and NHS Long-term Workforce Plan.

This role involves regular engagement with employers and key stakeholders, as well as a pro-active approach to supporting employers and understanding their challenges. You will coordinate, facilitate and ensure the smooth running of our regular Reward and Recognition Network meetings, with support from the reward programme manager. A key part of the role will be supporting drafting of reports, key documentation and web-based materials.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who has an interest in reward and recognition, who can work in a team, proactively drive work independently, has attention for detail and is willing to learn complex subject matters quickly. If you are new to the NHS or this topic area, we will support you to develop the expertise and skills needed to excel in this role. Job responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a senior programme support officer, you will work with the programme managers and other members of the team to ensure effective delivery of the reward programme.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

Supporting programme delivery and stakeholder engagement

Lead on the coordination, facilitation and delivery of the reward and recognition network. This includes seeking and liaising with speakers, preparing agendas, drafting the supporting PowerPoint, leading and facilitating discussions, taking minutes and following up post meeting actions. Responsibility for the delivery of the quarterly reward in the NHS bulletin. This involves drafting reward related articles, the directors introduction and seeking articles from the wider employment relations and reward directorate. Support the programme manager with the coordination of NHS Employers evidence to the NHS Pay Review Body. This includes liaising with internal programme teams, setting up stakeholder meetings and drafting sections of the evidence where appropriate. Work with the programme manager to enhance employers understanding of pay and the wider total reward package across the NHS. This involves keeping the pay education hub on our website up to date and working on key resources and communications that will help employers improve their knowledge in this area. Engaging with employers to gather intelligence to understand the pay, reward and recognition challenges they are currently facing. This will help the team to provide targeted support and develop helpful resources such as good practice examples, case studies and guidance. Building effective relationships with both NHS organisations and external stakeholders. Development of resources and communications Researching potential topic areas and working with our communications team to create resources in a variety of formats including case studies, blogs, podcasts, videos and posters. Maintaining, preparing and developing web-based materials, including responsibility for the maintenance of the reward and pay education sections of the NHS Employers website. This will involve amending and updating the website as required. Ensuring that effective and timely communications are delivered to employers about the latest developments in our work. This could involve drafting web content, scheduling social media posts or providing updates at network meetings. Team working Working with all wider team members to support the delivery of our commissioned pension, reward and pay work. This involves contributing to regular planning meetings, managing your own workload, identifying priorities and communicating any capacity pressures. Supporting our Programme Support Officer to manage our mailboxes and taking responsibility for answering email queries from employers in an accurate and timely way, providing excellent customer service. You will research to understand any problems, signpost to relevant online information and escalate within the team where appropriate. Working in partnership with other teams across NHS Employers and NHS Confederation as priorities dictate. Experience

Essential

Confident in planning, designing, facilitating, and delivering events and meetings which engage the audience. Self-motivated with an ability to work independently with minimum supervision to meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities. Some understanding of the NHS workforce and the wider issues currently affecting the NHS. An understanding of how employers can use pay, pensions and reward to motivate, attract, recruit and retain staff. Good IT skills and knowledge of MS Office packages. Able to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders. Demonstrable problem-solving skills and ability to develop creative solutions for complex problems. Strong attention to detail. Promotes an inclusive working environment.

Desirable

Experience of working in a HR or reward environment. Experience of engaging with trade unions. Project management skills.
