Cardiff, United Kingdom Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Full time

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an assistant psychologist with an interest in working with eating disorders to join the friendly and innovative Eating Disorders Specialist Outpatient Treatment Team (EDSOTT) in Cardiff. The team provides a variety of evidence-based approaches in line with NICE guidelines and Matrics Cymru to support people with a range of eating disorder presentations, and we are inclusive in terms of our referral criteria.

The service has expanded over the last few years and we have considerably reduced our waiting times. This is an exciting time to be involved in eating disorder services in Wales as we continue to develop in response to Welsh Government review recommendations and the recently formed NHS Executive. Particular areas of development are early intervention and transitions, trauma-informed working and coproduction. We maintain strong links with connected services such as our sister Tier 3 team, the Weight Management Service, Traumatic Stress Service, Integrated Autism Service, CMHTs, PMHSS, Mental Health University Liaison Service and CAMHS.

We are looking for individuals who are motivated and keen to work as part of a team to enhance eating disorder service provision. Past experience or knowledge of working with eating disorders would be a key asset to the role, as well as knowledge of electronic record keeping systems such as PARIS.

An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be working alongside clinical psychologists, psychological therapists and dietitians to deliver a high quality, person-centred service for people affected by eating disorders.

As an assistant psychologist joining the team, core elements of your role will be to deliver low intensity psychological therapies, including guided self-help for binge eating and bulimia, safety and stabilisation work for trauma, contemplation work and anxiety management in the context of ARFID. Your role will include data management in the form of updating the databases and waiting lists, collecting and scoring outcome measures and compiling data for service evaluations/audits. You will also provide some operational support to the team in terms of tracking client journeys through the service, updating records, supporting group interventions and developing therapy resources. You will receive weekly supervision for all elements of your role from one of the clinical psychologists in the team.

The post is professionally attached to the Psychology and Psychological Therapies Directorate, which offers a friendly and supportive space, with a strong commitment to providing quality evidence-based interventions in CAVUHB. We are also committed to staff development and wellbeing, with regular investment in training and development opportunities. We have good links with the South Wales Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology.
