An opportunity has arisen to join the successful Breast Care Unit,Luton and Dunstable Hospital . This is a Band 7 Surgical Nurse Practitioner role within the Breast Surgical Team to cover Maternity leave, depending on qualifications and experience, who is willing to undergo specialty training to develop in their role. This is therefore a full-time post only.

The successful candidate would be working closely with our Consultant Breast Surgeons Clinical Nurse Specialists, as well as an established multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver clinical excellence within the specialty of Breast Surgery. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative individual who is willing to learn and work within the constantly changing environment.

To work as an autonomous and highly specialized practitioner within the Surgical Breast Care service, with experience in pre-surgery assessment and managing post-operative wound caredelivering a range of services for breast patients in their surgical pathway

Job responsibilities

To use highly developed specialist knowledge and clinical skills in order to diagnose breast disorders, including breast cancer. Develop improvements/ service changes, in order to provide a high quality breast service. To work autonomously in the department, adhering to Trust protocols and policies, and NHSBSP guidelines at an expert level, and make clear and accurate clinical decisions, in the best interest of the patient, in assessment. To be an active member of the breast team, providing continuity of care by providing a range of services from pre-admission, post-operative care and follow-up care. Hold nurse led clinics for pre-operative and post-operative breast patients. Obtain informed consent for breast and some general surgery operations. Perform nurse led independent ward rounds and contribute towards clinical decision making about care and discharge. Assess emergency in-patients who have been referred to breast team and liaise with medical team. Person Specification
