Job Description

About the Role:

We are looking for a Travel Clearance Nurse to work as part of the Government team at Healix in Esher. This is a 30 hour per week role, working days Monday to Friday, worked over four 7.5 hour days. This is a dynamic, diverse and fulfilling role. This presents an exceptional chance for nurses to transition from the rigors of a clinical setting to a UK office-based position, all while continuing to apply their invaluable nursing expertise.

Key benefits:

Office-based work whilst maintaining patient contact using telephone and technology; flexible working day shift patterns; Healix academy support providing opportunity for personal development and qualifications (e.g. ILM5 management, leadership, clinical pathway streamlining, risk management); repatriation flight work; company benefits (e.g. pension, EAP, life insurance, wellbeing).

About Healix:

Our purpose is to help people in difficult situations – whether that’s a cancer diagnosis, a need for medical assistance when they’re far from home, or being caught up in conflict or natural disaster. We talk to them, support them, and make sure they get the help they need. If necessary, we’ll pull them out and bring them home. We’re a multidisciplinary supportive team looking for dynamic nurses to join us. The wider team also includes doctors, co-ordinators, security specialists -all problem-solvers and experts at navigating the global health and security landscape.

 Main purpose of the job:

  • To provide a timely, professional and expert medical planning service to assess and reduce medical risk for those travelling and posted overseas.

  • To assess medical risk in relation to location overseas and to work with individuals travelling, and involve senior clinical staff in the team, and key PAG contacts, to put in place a plan to best manage those risks.

  • To understand when risk is unacceptable and communicate outcomes professionally and appropriately.

  • To provide knowledgeable and expert support to those applying for medical clearance and ensure the right information and signposting is provided in a timely manner.

  • To work collaboratively with the clearance team providing advice and support as required to ensure KPI’s are exceeded.

  • Identify seasonal trends and proactively plan in collaboration with the clearance team and shift leads to ensure rota is adequately staffed to manage the increase in workload.

About The Role

About You:

The Healthline medical clearance service involves government employees and their dependents submitting clearance applications via the Hub 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.  The Clearance Case Nurse should have several years’ experience using nursing triage skills to be able to assess quickly those applications that require additional medical, nursing and planning prior to travel. The Nurse should be able to use expertise and knowledge to assess, manage and mitigate risks to the individuals travelling overseas.

The CC Nurse should hold a current NMC Pin and have been working at (band 5 or above) with a minimum of 2 years recent clinical or relevant case management experience.

The CC Nurse should be skilled in prioritisation and medical management planning and have experience in managing a high workload.

Broad knowledge of overseas healthcare and an ability to apply that knowledge to manage the challenges in difficult locations and the risk to individuals where medical services are not NHS equivalent.

Strong communication skills with an ability to provide appropriate and timely information on locations around the world using the information the Healthline team has to inform those travelling overseas and reduce their health risks.

Have excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.

Bring enthusiasm and self-motivation together with a positive approach to solve the issues that are current and emerging with the clearance service.

Experience in using basic IT  systems and using a case management system effectively.

Experience of working within a government, military or overseas environment or medical insurance, assistance sector, or repatriation experience would be an advantage.

Previous line management experience would be an advantage

The role is office based but some flexibility around hybrid working can be accommodated as long as business need (e.g. supporting team training, client visits) is prioritised and the service is being delivered effectively.

Career Development:

The Medical Clearance Case Manager Nurse post is a diverse and interesting post, offering plenty of scope for career development, if desired.

About The Company

We offer UK employee healthcare benefits, and travel, medical and security assistance in every corner of the globe.

We’re co-ordinators and problem-solvers: experts at navigating the global health and security landscape. Our teams of doctors, nurses, travel and medical co-ordinators and security experts make sure that your people will be looked after, whatever happens supported by technology designed help individuals, not slot them into a predetermined solution.

We work with governments, broadcasters, NGOs, international corporations, major insurers and more. No two clients are the same: we adapt our services to their needs.

More importantly, we adapt to the practical and human needs of the individuals we protect. Most of us are on the front line; we keep our back office lean. We don’t use scripts, and we don’t time calls. We never lose sight of the fact that we’re dealing with real people.

Company Culture

Instead, we focus on ensuring our highly trained specialists have the space and time they need to be effective. We let them use their initiative to get the job done, because the situations they face often throw up unexpected challenges – and no protocol survives contact with the real world.

Our clients have thousands of employees and customers, at home and abroad, so they need a business big enough to handle any situation. But they chose Healix because they also need an organisation that’s personal enough to care.

Our people are driven to do things in the best way, not the way they have always been done. We work hard, and our efforts are rewarded with great development opportunities and a supportive team spirit.

We want to nurture this friendly and dynamic company culture so that we can continue to attract diverse talent with a breadth of knowledge and world-class skills. As a part of Healix, you can expect a range of excellent benefits and an environment where people really do care.

Desired Criteria

  • Experience of working within a government, military or overseas environment or medical insurance, assistance sector, or repatriation experience would be an advantage.

Required Criteria

  • Hold a current NMC Pin and have been working at (band 5 or above) with a minimum of 3 years recent clinical experience.
  • We require basic IT skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment as well as directly with clients
  • Be able to work independently in order to plan and manage their caseload.
