An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiasticindividual who has a keen interest in patient safety to join the Trust'sCorporate Patient Safety Team. The role involves working with colleagues in allspecialties and disciplines to support patient safety across the whole organisation.

You will support the team's Leadand Matron in delivering the Trust's Patient Safety Strategy.

The role would suit a person whohas an interest in patient safety, has a strong focus on team working and withexcellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for promoting patientsafety across the organisation through liasing with clinical and non-clinicalstaff, providing education and training, and supporting with the systematicreviews of patient safety incidents.

Candidates will require excellent analytical andIT/database management skills as well as the ability to work under pressure tomeet tight deadlines. He/she will beable to work autonomously but also part of a small team.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for promoting patientsafety across the organisation through liasing with clinical and non-clinicalstaff, providing education and training, and supporting with the systematicreviews of patient safety incidents.

You will support the Trust to develop an effective patientsafety focus and culture through analysing themes and trends within incidents,as well as supporting care areas to look at recommendations and safety actionsto improve the delivery of services to patients.

The post holder will advise on the applicationof the national Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) to managingrisk and safety.

Person Specification

Special Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of the Health Service and current national initiatives, particularly in relation to Clinical Governance and patient safety. Knowledge and skills relating to incident management systems. Excellent communication, presentational, training and report writing skills. Skills required to undertake evaluations and/or audit. Skills in the analysis and interpretation of information. Ability to influence/persuade/motivate others. Knowledge of CQC lines of enquiry. Advanced Microsoft Office training (specifically Word and Excel).

Desirable

Knowledge of PSIRF. PSIRF Syllabus Training.

Qualifications

Essential

Relevant 1st level degree. Evidence of continuous professional development.

Desirable

Post graduate degree or working towards (Masters level). Teaching and Training qualification. Completed an accredited Patient Safety training programme.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in the NHS in a professional/managerial/specialist role. Experience of advising and liaising with staff at all levels, preferably in the NHS and academic institutions. Clear understanding of the issues prevailing around clinical governance. Experience of project management or leading a change project.

Desirable

Experience of developing care pathways/clinical guidelines. Evidence of successfully leading change management projects involving multi disciplinary team. Experience in reviewing or managing patient safety incidents.

Excellent organisational and project management abilities. Committed to the development of patient safety. Ability to prioritise and work pro-actively. High level of personal and professional credibility. Diplomatic sensitive to the requirements and pressures of colleagues.
