An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical lead to join our busy Older Adult mental Health In-patient ward.

We are a specialist older person's mental health in-patient unit based in Taunton, taking acute admissions from across Somerset.

Join our dynamic team as a vital member of our in-patient multi-disciplinary team, working within a recovery focused service. We are looking for someone who's committed to teamwork and also a natural leader to join our forward thinking and progressive team.

You'll be working alongside the existing Clinical leads and ward managers, to promote consistent leadership and high standards of clinical care within your allocated ward.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for delivering, and maintaining a high standard of clinical care for our patients. You'll be the one ensuring everything runs smoothly alongside our ward and deputy ward managers, providing clinical guidance to the team.

You'll be at the forefront of promoting quality assurance and clinical governance, ensuring that they are incorporated into everyday practice using the frameworks of Practice Development and new quality initiatives into our daily routines.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is a key member of the in-patient multi-disciplinary team, working within a recovery-focused service. There is a need to demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, with strong leadership skills. To be responsible for co-coordinating, delivering and maintaining a high standard of clinical care for all patients. To provide support to the ward and deputy ward manager and provide clinical leadership to the ward team. To promote models of quality assurance and clinical governance and ensure that they are incorporated into everyday practice using the frameworks of Practice Development, new ways of working quality initiatives and any others that will be adopted. To take an active role in the promotion of high quality clinical and managerial supervision, personal development reviews and the creation of individual personal development plans for all staff.

Planning and Organisation

To adhere to the relevant code of professional conduct at all times.

To abide by the legal requirements and statutory rules related to practice.

To utilise and promote management and clinical supervision and appraisal in enhancing performance development.

Analytics

*In conjunction with the ward manager/ deputy ward manager, to lead the clinical management of patients to ensure that high standards of nursing care are achieved and maintained.

*Ensuring that nursing staff on the ward provides the agreed standards of treatment, care and activity for patients.

*To work within and manage the legal and professional frameworks relating to consent, capacity, deprivation of liberty and the Mental Health Act.

Responsibility for Patient / Client Care, Treatment & Therapy

*To actively participate/lead with the MDT in planning, reviewing and delivering care.

*Support junior staff in patient's RCPA and ensure the agreed process is maintained.

*To ensure that changes in the patient's physical mental health and behaviour are reported and recorded by the post holder and junior nursing staff.

*To maintain working knowledge of legislation and guidance pertaining to mental health and learning disabilities.

*To identify, provide and supervise therapeutic activities, emotional support and stability to patients to ensure effective engagement whilst maintaining professional boundaries.

*To create and maintain professional supportive relationships with all members of staff, with other professionals and agencies to enhance recovery.

*Maintaining personal clinical expertise as required by the needs of a changing service and statutory bodies.

*To ensure that all clinical and risk assessments are completed and reviewed in line with Trust policies on data collection.

*To be responsible for the administration of prescribed medication in line with Trust policy and drug administration standards.

*To promote a care pathway and co-ordinate timely discharges.

*To understand and, in collaboration with the ward manager or relevant others, take a lead on a range of interventions available, whilst ensuring that evidence-based practice is adopted and maintained.

*Ensuring that high standards of communication with patients' relatives and staff are developed and maintained.

*To support the ward manager to achieve team objectives, targets and quality standards.

*To contribute to the promotion of staff well-being and morale in the team through developing and maintaining supportive relationships, acting as a role model.

*To deal with complaints in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

*To maintain adequate resources for the delivery of care.

*To assist in the implementation and monitoring of all Trust policies and procedures and local protocols on the ward and ensuring that clinical practice standards are adhered to and implemented.
