Job summary

CUH has a Comprehensive Stroke Centre that delivers regional thrombectomy service. It has a strong multi-disciplinary team providing care to Hyper-acute and acute people following a stroke. The aim of our Stroke Alert Team is to provide 24/7 access to early recognition, treatment and world class stroke care which is evidence based.

We are seeking a dedicated nurse to be part of our expanding team and to assist us in delivering safe and compassionate care to all our patients.

This role will make a positive difference to people from the arrival to the front door and through their admission.

Using excellent nursing skills with outstanding interpersonal skills, endurance and empathy you will make both staff and patients feel cared for and supported. You will provide attention to detail, be a problem solver and care for our patients and families. You will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team and have great learning and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

To facilitate the acute stroke bleep pathway

To review all confirmed and suspected stroke patients within the ED departments, assessing, diagnosing, requesting radiological imagery and making clinical decisions.

Assisting medical staff to thombolyse appropriate stroke patients and other radiological procedures.

To manage stroke patient flow from ED to the stroke unit ensuring appropriate placement of all patients.

Be responsible for the meeting the key stroke targets: , swallow, admission and imaging targets for stroke patients.

Identify suitable patients for recruitment to stroke research studies.

Assist ward with patient repatriation to other hospitals.

Assist with data collect / discharge plan on the wards when not assessing patients

Registered Nurse Educated to Degree Level. Post Registration qualification in speciality Evidence of continuous professional development. Teaching qualification. Advanced Communication skills/counselling qualification or willingness to undertake. Advanced clinical assessment course or experience.
