Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team to ensure that women with severe or complex mental health conditions who are planning pregnancy, are pregnant or have a child under one, receive high quality, evidence-based specialist advice, assessment and interventions.

To ensure the provision of specialist advice, consultation, liaison and education to professionals who work with women contemplating pregnancy and during the perinatal period. The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist is to hold a small caseload of the most complex, high-risk cases, provide and assist the development of skills, knowledge and understanding regarding the risks associated with this client group both with internal and external partners.

To work directly with the most complex, high-risk women, their infants and families who are at risk of or experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions Attending perinatal referral and clinical meetings to offer support and participate in clinical decision making To be part of the continual development of the Countywide Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service in line with the NHS Long Term Plan To contribute to the development and delivery of Perinatal Mental Health Training and Education to other staffing groups Provide operational and/or clinical supervision to junior staff To provide specialist advice and consultation to other staff regarding the management of women experiencing severe and complex mental health conditions during the perinatal phase, including guidance on management and signposting where conditions do not require input from a specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service To link with, participate and be responsible for the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children. Making referrals to relevant safeguarding/social care teams.

Job responsibilities

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. To work directly with the most complex, high-risk women, their infants and families who are at risk of or experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions To support the manager in developing and implementing change within the team Attending perinatal referral and clinical meetings to offer support and participate in clinical decision making To be part of the continual development of the Countywide Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service in line with the NHS Long Term Plan To contribute to the development and delivery of Perinatal Mental Health Training and Education to other staffing groups Act as a perinatal link worker to other services within the trust such as FRS, CRHTT, ALTs, CAMEO etc Develop close working relationships with external partners, such as midwifery and health visiting. To offer support and guidance for referrals and shared case discussions, whilst also offering a regular training package to these partners. Act as a practice assessor and/or practice supervisor for student nurses Provide operational and/or clinical supervision to junior staff To provide specialist advice and consultation to other staff regarding the management of women experiencing severe and complex mental health conditions during the perinatal phase, including guidance on management and signposting where conditions do not require input from a specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service To link with, participate and be responsible for the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children. Making referrals to relevant safeguarding/social care teams. Attending and participating in meetings such as TAF, CIN, CP, STRAT, MARAC, MASH The writing of and attendance to tribunals of ladies on the team caseload under section on MBUs. To take a lead role in initiating and conducting clinical practice audits and communicate results within the service area to promote good practice.

Post graduate qualification relating to physical health or medication management. Advanced Clinical Skills in the delivery of psychological therapies. Assessment, planning and therapeutic intervention.
