Job summary

The Medical Lead is an important role within the service, providingleadership, coordination and delivery of the prescribing and clinical elementswithin this integrated substance use service.

You will be a registered doctor (Speciality or Consultant Psychiatrist)and will have experience in providing support to ensure that we areconsistently offering a high quality, clinically excellent, recovery-focusedservice to people with problematic substance use.

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting Medical Lead role for a suitably experiencedprescriber to help us to provide specialist, tailoredsupport, for some of the most vulnerable people within our community.This role will allow you to play a key role in developing the specialistsubstance use clinical treatment offer in Kingston, and become an integral partof the local leadership team.

You will provide medical and clinical leadership to the Via Kingstonservice staff, and clinical supervision to healthcare staff within the service.You will also provide clinical leadership and support to GPs and Pharmaciesinvolved in the provision of treatment services to people who use substances withinKingston.

You will be an active part of the local management and leadership teamand contribute to the overall performance of the service to ensure thatcontractual output targets are achieved. This role is also supported by Vias centralclinical department, for example to receive clinical supervision.

About us

Via Kingston is a fully integrated adult substance use service,providing clinical and psychosocial interventions from a main treatment hub locatedwithin Surbiton Health Centre.

This service is an established Community Integrated service that is wellperforming and highly functioning. It is CQC registered to provide a range ofclinical interventions including blood borne virus and other holistic healthinterventions, opioid substitute treatment, and community detoxification,alongside a comprehensive psychosocial, harm reduction and recovery focusedmodel.

The team actively supports individuals that are directly and indirectlyaffected by substance use, working with the local community to improve thehealth, wellbeing and functioning of Kingston residents, irrespective ofcircumstance.

Job responsibilities

Role Purpose

Provide high quality service delivery topeople who use substances and their significant others.

Contribute to the overall performance ofdesignated service(s) to ensure that contractual output targets and high clinicalstandards are achieved.

Provide safe, effective and evidence basedclinical (including prescribed) interventions and holistic care within thedesignated service(s)/partnership agencies as required by serviceconfiguration.

Provide effective medical leadership to theservice and liaise internally with senior and executive team as well asexternal stake holders.

Key duties and activities of the role

Work as a medical lead in treatment ofsubstance use disorders (prescriber), in designated service.

Deliver health and wellbeing interventions fordesignated service(s).

Assist in the development of systems, pathwaysand documents that promote holistic delivery of services to people with complexneeds (, psychiatry, criminal justice, blood borne viruses).

Ensure appropriate clinical management ofpeople who use the designated service(s), including those with complexneeds.

Promote and support organisational interface,for example, with commissioners, suppliers, primary and secondary care services(including public health, wholesalers, community pharmacy/GPs and hospitalsrespectively).

Contribute to(medicines/drug/devices/infection control etc) alert responses in collaborationwith the Clinical Department.

Be involved in and where appropriate takeresponsibility for relevant audits ongoing monitoring and implementation ofassociated recommendations/action plans.

Contribute to the collation and use ofclinical data and be involved in subsequent improvements required, relating toquality/performance indicators.

Provide competency assessment and training ofstaff/students/volunteers, identify and support development needs of others andsupport colleagues to develop in their roles to deliver excellentservices.

Undertake continuing professional developmentto maintain confidence and competence, to meet organisational and professionalregulator revalidation requirements.

Work in line with all relevant legislation,best practice guidance, professional and CQC standards and organisationaldocuments.

Provide advice and guidance on clinical(including prescribing) issues to staff working in the designated service(s),as well as other colleagues and partner agencies.

Work alongside management and their directreports to support a one team approach.

Where relevant, provide clinical/linemanagement supervision for other staff and support facilitation of relevantmeetings/training events.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Qualified Doctor registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practice and able to prescribe independently. Relevant post graduate qualifications/completion of relevant recognised qualifications , ideally MRCPsych and CCT/CESR or RCGP Drugs part 1 and 2 certificates, if no membership (desirable).

Experience

Essential

Passion for working with substance misuse services or with other socially excluded or vulnerable groups. Sound and demonstrable knowledge of clinical/prescribing issues relating to problematic substance use, include appropriate recovery, harm reduction and health promotion interventions. Solution focused with an inclusive and innovative approach to service development. Good IT skills including use of Microsoft Office programs and digital meeting platforms and Case Management Systems such as Nebula. A demonstrable understanding of the Health and Social Care regulatory requirements including the CQC, NICE and any other relevant bodies. A demonstratable commitment to working in partnership with other professionals such as criminal justice agencies, primary care, secondary care, commissioners, community groups and other stakeholders to achieve good outcomes for people who use our services. The ability to work calmly under pressure, ensuring that deadlines are met, and ensure all information is recorded in a timely manner. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in different settings and to different groups of people. Great team working, communication, interpersonal skills and cooperative approach to supporting colleagues and the whole team to deliver organisational objectives, as well as in working directly with people who use our services and their significant others.
