Our Team
The Compliance team is responsible for providing compliance oversight, challenge, and advice to first-line business areas. Its objectives are to ensure the Group understands and complies with all key conduct and data protection regulations, manages all regulatory engagement and demands effectively, and oversees key areas of corporate compliance.
Reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer you'll be the designated Data Protection Officer (DPO) for all data controllers and responsible for carrying out the tasks prescribed by Article 39 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UKGDPR). As a member of the Chief Compliance Office Leadership Team, you will also be responsible for leading and contributing to key initiatives that are relevant across the Compliance teams.
What you'll be doing
- Overseeing and advising on the data protection and privacy risk framework, and compliance with current and future relevant data protection, privacy legislation and regulations.
- Managing engagement with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
- Delivering a periodic independent assessment to the VMUK Board.
- Providing expert guidance on key aspects of data protection, privacy risk strategy, and compliance focussing efforts on areas that present higher data protection risks.
- Leading the management of the Privacy Risk team.
- Building and maintaining internal and external relationships, with third parties including data subjects, regulators and professional bodies.
- Ensuring thorough breach investigations are undertaken and incidents are effectively managed and reported to management, the ICO, and data subjects as appropriate.
- Lead and develop the capability of the team to achieve delivery of the Risk plan.
We need you to have
- In-depth knowledge and expertise of national and European data protection laws and practices, including (but not limited to) the Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, and the UK General Data Protection Regulation.
- Significant experience as a DPO or similar compliance role within a large financial services organization, with experience in advising on data protection and privacy.
- Retail and business banking experience preferable.
- Demonstrable track record in managing expert assurance review/audit programs.
- Expert communicator at all levels specifically at senior manager and executive level.
- Previous experience in leading and managing a team with the ability to exercise leadership to influence change.
- A detail-orientated approach to recommend and implement strategic improvement on a range of data privacy and data protection issues.
It's a bonus if you have but not essential
- Data Protection and /or Privacy Certification such as CIPP, CIPT, ISEB etc.
