The post is a rare opportunity to join the Carroll Lab, a research group focused on understanding mechanisms of steroid receptor (SR) transcriptional activity in cancer, in particular estrogen receptor (ER) in breast cancer. The group takes a genomic, proteomic and molecular approach to delineate mechanisms underlying SR activity, with particular emphasis on defining mechanisms that contribute to tumorigenesis and drug resistance.
Our lab has an extensive track record in fostering early research careers. In fact, many of our team’s leading scientists have started their careers with us in this entry-level post.
The successful candidate will learn and develop various skills during their journey with us, in order to progress exciting projects within our laboratory. Specifically, our lab is interested in using our tools, in conjunction with the recent advances in breast cancer models to explore the changes in ER function in breast cancer metastasis. In addition, recent similarities in molecular processes have been observed between breast and prostate/pancreatic cancer and we are interested in pursuing these questions. This will involve detailed pathway biology and will revolve around our interest in characterising transcription factors in cancer.
You will ultimately have the opportunity to work under your own initiative and apply your problem-solving skills to troubleshoot challenging technical issues. You will contribute towards running of various projects within the laboratory and you will present your work regularly at the lab meetings. In addition, you will be responsible for maintaining risk assessments and procurement of reagents for the laboratory.
The successful candidate will report directly to Prof. Carroll as a key member of the research group, providing logistical and scientific support to other team members, including Research Associates, Academic Clinical Fellows, PhD students and Bioinformatics Analysts.
The role holder would possess some research experience with molecular biology and biochemical expertise. Previous experience in cancer biology would be highly desirable.
