Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant ChildPsychiatrist to join a vibrant multidisciplinary team in North Devon, workinginto a number of pathways. The post will be based in North Devon but involve workingwith the consultant group across Devon providing strong medical leadership.

Child and Family Health Devon has established a number ofdifferent mental health pathways including Managing Mood and Emotions, ManagingEating, Urgent Care, Learning Disability and Neurodiversity. There will be opportunitiesfor the candidate to develop and pursue their special interest, supportingmedical leadership within these pathways. There will also be opportunities forcolleagues with an interest in medical education, the service has strong linkswith two universities and medical schools.

Candidates will be joining Devon CAMHS which isa CQC rated Good service and part of a wider Integrated service withinChildren and Family Health Devon.

Main duties of the job

This is a 10PA communitypost based in North Devon. The service has a strong multidisciplinary ethos andsuccessful applicants will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to workingflexibly with colleagues from other disciplines in an integrated way.

The appointee will beexpected to provide psychiatric input to the multidisciplinary team,contributing to clinical and team management decisions and providingconsultation to others. They will contribute to leading on the establishment ofmulti-disciplinary assessment clinics, providing high quality specialist mentalhealth assessments of young people referred into the service.

There will be aparticularly strong emphasis on leadership, both clinical and in terms ofservice development working closely with the operational managers and otherclinical leads.

The successful candidate will participate inon-call duties and join the regular peer group CPD forum and will be supportedto become a clinical supervisor or pursue special interests.

Qualifications

Essential

Full Registration with the General Medical Council. To hold Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview. Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.

Desirable

MRC Psych OR equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. Evidence of sub-speciality or other specific training, systemic therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy. CCT Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Aptitudes and Values

Excellent communication skills. Evidence of ability to exercise leadership in a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to work collaboratively with other clinical teams. A team player able to inspire and support staff at all levels of training and across professional disciplines. A commitment to continuing professional development. Experience

Essential

Prior experience working in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team. Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community. Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.

Desirable

Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service. Clinical experience in a range of services within Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Experience in other related specialities, psychotherapy, paediatrics.

Management

Essential

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers. Awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements.

Desirable

Management training / experience. Experience of involvement in service development.

Research

Essential

Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.

Desirable

Aptitude for and practical experience of research.

Teaching and Supervision

Essential

Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.

Desirable

Evidence of additional teaching skills. Experience as a lecturer or supervisor. Experience in Clinical Supervision.
