Job summary

This postis offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full timeapplications will be considered.

Whilstthe role will be based primarily at our Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital inWakefield, we provide services at our other hospital sites; Dewsbury andDistrict Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. Most People do work fromtwo sites. If they have to travelbetween sites during the day then that is reflected in the job plan as travelThe department provides Secretarial support and office accommodation withComputer and IT facilities in the Eye Centre.The department has the support of Optometrists, Orthoptists, SpecialistNurses and Eye Clinic Liaison Officers.

Main duties of the job

The main dutiesof the post will include:

Supporting the provision of General Ophthalmology with asubspecialty interest in Acute eye service or General Ophthalmology or anyother subspecialty which complements the department.

Delivery of outpatient clinics and day case surgery

Workload includes seeing about 12 patients in Face to Faceclinic and 24 patients in Virtual clinic. In theatre if Cataract expected to doabout 7 Cases.

Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hourson-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working timeregulations and safe working

On-call duties are currently shared with 8 other colleagueson a rota, currently assessed as PA.

Core Supporting Professional Activities will be offeredto the successful candidate for which appropriate objectives will be agreed inaccordance with the Trust Framework* and national Terms and Conditions ofService with additional PA for extra roles like Lead for service etc

Examples may include formal teachingresponsibilities or departmental leadership roles

GMC Registration

Essential

Please state full GMC number Full GMC Registration with licence to practise Inclusion on the GMC Specialist register

Qualifications

Essential

Medical Degree from recognised medical school FRCOphth / FRCS or equivalent

Desirable

Fellowship in Acute eye service Academic Prizes Audit or Case Presentations Teaching qualification / awards

Management Skills

Essential

Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving. Good time management. Computer literate Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.

Desirable

Possess good organisational and personal management skills Evidence of personal contributions to service development Awareness of the current UK Healthcare system and the need to develop services in line with current policy

Experience

Essential

Wide experience in management of Acute eye patients in outpatients, Lasers and theatre.

Desirable

Ophthalmology fellowship or equivalent experience in Acute eye Service or experience in General Ophthalmology. Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
