About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join our team at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the provision of General Ophthalmology with a subspecialty interest in Cornea or any other subspecialty that complements the department.
  • Delivery of outpatient clinics and day case surgery
  • Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working
  • On-call duties are currently shared with 8 other colleagues on a rota, currently assessed as PA.
  • Core Supporting Professional Activities will be offered to the successful candidate for which appropriate objectives will be agreed in accordance with the Trust Framework* and national Terms and Conditions of Service with additional PA for extra roles like Lead for service etc
Person Specification
  • GMC Registration: Essential
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist register
  • Qualifications: Essential
  • Medical Degree from recognised medical school
  • FRCOphth / FRCS or equivalent
  • Desirable
  • Fellowship in Cornea
  • Academic Prizes
  • Audit or Case Presentations
  • Teaching qualification / awards
  • Experience: Essential
  • Wide experience in management of Cornea patients in outpatients, Lasers and theatre.
  • Desirable
  • Ophthalmology fellowship or equivalent experience in Cornea.
  • Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
  • Management Skills: Essential
  • Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Good time management.
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.
  • Desirable
  • Possess good organisational and personal management skills
  • Evidence of personal contributions to service development
  • Awareness of the current UK Healthcare system and the need to develop services in line with current policy
