Job summary

Yeovil District Hospital is looking for enthusiastic, proactive individuals to work within our efficient Main Theatre Unit. The department is driven to provide a high quality, safe, effective, well led, responsive and caring services. We cater for the following specialities: General, Urology, Colorectal, Robotics, Breast, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Gynae and Obstetrics. We have 4 main theatres, 1 gynae theatre and 1 obstetrics theatre. We plan to open the 5th main theatre in Autumn 2025. We merged with Musgrove Park Hospital to become Somerset Foundation Trust, providing countywide care for the population of Somerset. Here at YDH a brand-new Modular Day Surgery Suite opened in May 2023.

The successful candidates will have an opportunity to progress to Band 3 once working independently out of hours across all theatres.

Main duties of the job

To provide care for patients undergoing surgical procedures in the Main theatre and Gynae theatre, under direct supervision of the registered theatre practitioners including patient transfer and positioning. To assist in the preparation of the environment and equipment for the clinical procedures in the Operating Theatre. To assist in the scrub practitioner in the counting of instrument and swabs. To be in theatre during surgery to provide the scrub practitioner with equipment as required. Assist in supplying and maintaining materials and equipment re-stocking clinical areas using stock rotation. To be aware of and work within Theatre and Trust policies and guidelines. Assist in receiving, handling recording and dispatching of clinical specimens. To clean the operating theatre and equipment between cases. Maintain a clean theatre environment including ancillary areas. To work within the team to ensure a safe environment is maintained in order to safeguard the welfare of patients staff and visitors Communicate departmental information with other health care professionals as required within the scope of the TCA role. Contribute and maintain awareness of Health and Safety COSSH and attend mandatory training as required. To carry out duties required by Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (YDH) which fall within the grading of the post.

Qualifications

Essential

Evidence of secondary education.

Desirable

Care Certificate (Skills for Care) inhouse training or prepared to undertake within an agreed timescale Vocational level 2 Healthcare or prepared to undertake within agree time scale

Previous experience in a care environment or able to demonstrate a caring nature/ life experience.
