This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the National FGM Centre. Having a UK wide remit, you will lead on supporting the objectives of the National FGM Centre.

The National FGM Centre works with professionals and in communities to educate and prevent Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), breast flattening, and child abuse linked to faith or belief (CALFB) as well as other forms of harmful practices. It was established in 2015 to achieve system change in the provision of services for children and their families who are affected by FGM. In 2017, the focus of our work was extended to include Breast Flattening and Child Abuse Linked to Faith or Belief. The aim is to prevent new cases, protect children and young people, support those affected by FGM and other harmful practices, partner to deliver services and learn.

As The National FGM Centre aims to diversify its reach, the Centre has submitted an application to the Home Office to access the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) grant. Funding will be used to develop a Harmful Practices Network, with the NFGMC leading a consortium of By and For Grass Roots organisations across the UK between April 2023-March 2025.

Social work qualified, you will have extensive post qualification experience of working across a range of cases, from early help to complex child protection. You will have experience working in a multi-agency environment dealing with a wide range of cases including child protection assessments and court cases. Specialist training to build knowledge will be provided.

As a social worker, you will work on the harmful practices Support Hub, a unique virtual platform for professionals and victims/survivors/witnesses to access, where you will give expert advice/guidance/signposting or referral into specialist programmes provided by the Network. You will also deliver training, and occasionally undertake child protection risk assessments.

Working for Barnardo's, you will have access to a fantastic range of benefits including a salary exchange pension scheme, an Employee Assistance Programme, Childcare Vouchers, Cycle to Work schemes and access to discounts for things such as RAC membership, holidays and cinema tickets.

Applicants must be Social Work England registered.

Although this contract has a permanent status, please be aware that this post is subject to funding currently until 31.03.26 and therefore should this funding not be extended further, you may be subject to a redundancy consultation or a TUPE arrangement. This contract is due to expire on 31.03.26.

Pay & Reward Framework

We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's . We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.

For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. More details on Barnardo's pay framework can be found upon application.
