An exciting opportunity has arisen within our department to expand our Specialist Medicine pharmacy team. The post holder will be working alongside our Highly Specialist Pharmacist – Rheumatology and Dermatology and our Specialist Medicine Pharmacy Technician within a MDT setting.

In collaboration with the Pharmacy and Specialist Medicine team, the post holder will be responsible for delivering and managing the pharmacy service to Rheumatology, Dermatology and Gastroenterology. You will be responsible for running a pharmacist led biologics clinic and supporting with biosimilar switches.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as the Highly Specialist Pharmacist for Rheumatology, Dermatology and Gastroenterology to deliver patient focused, quality care, based at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

You will be a core member of the Trust’s Rheumatology, Dermatology and Gastroenterology teams, providing professional pharmaceutical governance, medicines safety, medicines information, medicines finance, education and training and medicines optimisation support to the team and the service’s patients. The role will involve supporting with biosimilar switches across the services to assist with medicines efficiencies. You will build relationships and work with internal stakeholders and external partners to support the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care to all patients.

The post holder will support the Associate Director of Pharmacy, Deputy Head of Pharmacy and the Lead Pharmacist for Specialist Medicine, in managing the professional, clinical and technical input of pharmacy into Rheumatology, Dermatology and Gastroenterology.

Essential criteria

Significant experience post registration in a hospital based post. Proven experience of good performance in previous roles Experience of providing a hospital-based service to Gastroenterology patients at specialist pharmacist level or equivalent Experience of managing high cost drugs Good understanding of homecare process Previous evaluations or reviews of medicines Experience and knowledge of developing guidelines/protocols. Experience of developing and reviewing patient group directions and shared care guidelines Experience of providing evaluated information on drug expenditure Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. trainee pharmacists/foundation training pharmacists/other staff groups.

Desirable criteria

Experience of successfully leading and implementing service improvement and change projects Experience of working with electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) systems Experience of successfully managing staff, performing appraisal and giving feedback Experience of managing a budget Experience of providing a hospital-based service to Rheumatology and Dermatology patients at specialist pharmacist level or equivalent

Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements Knowledge of medicines management systems Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work Understanding of stock control systems Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives Knowledge of drug and therapeutics at Diploma level or equivalent

Qualifications

MR Pharm or equivalent Registered as a pharmacist with GPhC. Postgraduate Pharmacy Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum postgraduate diploma level) Independent prescribing qualification, or willing to undergo training to become an IP
