We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and forward-thinking community team, acting as a highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with expertise in the area of bilingualism and also working as an integral part of our management team managing a team of 10 to 20 SLTs .

This is an opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills contributing to developing a Balanced System in Birmingham in order to improve and advocate for services to children with SLCN especially bilingual children in our large multicultural city.

Main duties of the job

You will provide Speech and Language Therapy at a highly specialist level, with a specific focus on the area of bilingualism, functioning in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children and young people known to the service. You will demonstrate clinical leadership in bilingualism and represent the local team/service area in all appropriate meetings to support and develop quality services for bilingual children and young people across the city in an integrated partnership model. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and support of a team of SLT staff comprising of bands 4 to 7 You will develop strong and effective working relationships with colleagues using highly developed interpersonal skills You will apply BCHC Trust policies regarding staff management with fairness and compassion.

Job responsibilities

Contributing to discussions around setting the direction for the service including foreseeing risks and opportunities. Linking in with regional & national colleagues via networks to benchmark best practice, build professional networks and bring practice back to the service to contribute to service planning within the specialist area. Reviewing and interpreting research evidence relevant to specialist area and contributing to discussions on how to implement findings to the benefit of the service in line with service priorities. Managing staff performance/disciplinary matters within the designated team, with support from the Service Operational Manager. Supporting the Professional Leads and Service Clinical Manager in the development and implementation of an appropriate training programme for members of the team across the locality, using information from appraisals and personal development plans Taking a role in the local implementation and monitoring of clinical supervision/ practice support systems in line with relevant policies and procedures. Assisting the Service Clinical Manager and Professional Leads in the recruitment, selection, and induction of staff, as required. oExtensive experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in a range of multi-disciplinary and / or multi-agency teams in Local Authority and Health settings oExtensive experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with a range of developmental disorders and delays oSignificant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes oRelevant experience of using leadership skills for service development oSignificant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals
