Job summary

We are delighted to welcome applications from experienced and dynamic practitioner psychologists for this 8a post working alongside the NICU psychology lead in a developing and highly specialised service. We would also consider applications from final year trainees or newly qualified practitioner psychologists for a band 7 to 8a development post.

The Tier 3 NICU provides holistic care for new born babies requiring additional specialist support due to prematurity or complex health difficulties. The NICU Psychology team support babies, parents and staff with the emotional and relational demands of the neonatal environment. The successful applicant will be integrated into the existing passionate MDT, bringing a psychological perspective to all aspects of the care of babies and their families. The NICU setting is simultaneously incredibly rewarding and challenging so as a service we place a strong emphasis on self-care and supporting one another. This means that there are clear job plans, robust supervision and an emphasis on maintaining a good work/life balance.

This post will be mainly based on the neonatal unit but will be part of the welcoming and dynamic CAVUHB Child Health Psychology Department which offers wider opportunities for collaborative working and further learning and development.

Main duties of the job

The post provides opportunities to utilise and develop competencies across all aspects of the practitioner psychologist role.

Assessment, formulation and psychological intervention with individuals, dyads. wider family and groups Staff teaching, formulation and consultation to support psychological thinking and develop trauma informed care Promoting psychological wellbeing within the team through relevant support mechanisms Highly specialised supervision Liaison and collaborative working with relevant services Service development, research and audit Strategic working to advocate for psychological needs of NICU families

The role offers the opportunity to work across staff, perinatal, parent-infant and family mental health in the context of complex physical health systems. Therefore, experience in either a paediatric or a perinatal/infant mental health setting is desirable, however we are keen to meet candidates who have a range of transferable clinical experiences. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a rapidly expanding and innovative clinical psychology specialism and there is plenty of scope for service development and pursuing clinically relevant areas of personal interest.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

oGood Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS. oPost-graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS). oHCPC registered as a practitioner psychologist

Desirable

oPost doctoral training in specialised areas of psychological practice of relevance to working with families and staff in a neonatal setting.

Experience

Essential

Substantial and demonstrable post-qualification experience of working as a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist delivering highly skilled psychological assessments, interventions, follow-ups and data monitoring utilising at least 2 therapeutic models. Experience of delivering individual, dyad, group and systemic interventions with a wide variety of client groups, across the life span and presenting with full range of clinical severity. Experiencing of teaching and training in psychological concepts utilising variety of multi-media for range of professional groups and contexts Experience of providing consultation to other professionals, professional groups/across agencies Experience of providing specialised clinical supervision to pre and post qualification psychological practitioners and other relevant staff.

Desirable

Experience of working with service users and other stakeholders as co-producers. Evidence of leading service development and innovation Experience of working clinically within with one or more of the following areas: paediatric health, perinatal or infant mental health, medical setting.. Experience of working with front line staff to support staff wellbeing and delivery of psychologically informed care. Knowledge of legislation and best practice guidance in relation to perinatal, infant, children and families mental health. High level knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological frameworks and therapies of relevance to working with infants, families and staff in a neonatal setting.
