Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available within the patient safety team to cover maternity leave for 12 months.

Our Patient Safety Co-ordinator holds a key role to ensure the successful implementation of the UHD Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).

The purpose of this post is to support the administration of PSIRF and the dissemination of learning and patient safety improvement across the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating learning from patient safety events within their allocated care group and support the Patient Safety and Risk team in the day-to-day governance of learning from reported incidents.

The Patient safety Coordinator will support the Patient Safety Facilitator in identifying emerging themes and trends in the incident data.

Base Location: Poole Hospital

Main duties of the job

The post holder will facilitate the implementation of effective systems to collect, monitor, review and learn from patient safety events. They will support implementation of the Trust PSIRF Plan and signpost staff to available support tools and guidance. The post holder will support the implementation of the Trust's Patient Safety Strategy. The post holder may be asked to support local quality patient safety initiatives and improvement projects where a Patient Safety Investigator has deemed the improvement relates to local systems rather than a Trust wide action. The post holder will collate, monitor, and support the closure of learning actions and improvement plans arising from patient safety investigations. The post holder will produce high quality reports at different levels across the organisation for groups, committees, and individual safety initiatives The post holder will work effectively under the direction of the Patient Safety Facilitator to ensure high standards of performance are maintained.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience within NHS

Desirable

IOSH Managing safely or IOSH Certificate (or similar) Recognised patient safety training

Experience

Essential

Recent experience working in the NHS for at least 2 years Experience in organising meetings, taking minutes and writing relevant reports from meeting discussions. Experience of managing a diverse workload Communicating effectively via telephone, individual or group discussion, e-mail and MS Teams

Desirable

Experience of Risk Management systems ( Datix) Working in a clinical governance or risk management support role in the NHS for at least 2 years Experience liaising with external stakeholders ( CQC, ICB other NHS organisations)

Ability to work at all levels of the organisation Logical problem solving Excellent verbal and written skills Assertive and self-motivated Ability to write professional reports to suit the target audience Ability to write clear concise reports/letters and presentation of data. Competent using databases including familiarity with a risk management system Datix. Enhanced IT and keyboard skills

Good understanding of the current incident reporting frameworks and methodologies and the new Patient Safety Incident Reporting Framework and National patient safety strategy.
