Teaching Fellow in Geophysics and Quantitative Geoscience

Are you an enthusiastic geophysicist or geoscientist with a keen interest in education? The (ESE) is seeking an engaging educator for the role of Teaching Fellow in Geophysics and Quantitative Geoscience.
ESE provides degree programmes for approximately 300 undergraduates. We are one of the leading Earth Science departments in the UK with a reputation for excellence in both teaching and research.
Working with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and a team of teaching and administrative staff, you will contribute to the delivery of geophysics and in physics, mathematics and programming that underpin geophysics, geology and Earth & planetary science. Your duties will include:
Undertaking teaching including lectures, seminars, and academic tutorialsPlanning and delivering geophysical field studiesActing as a personal tutor, supporting students with their academic, personal and professional development, and with pastoral mattersBeing a reflective, adaptable practitioner committed to personal and professional development, and the development of own teaching and learning skillsA first degree (or equivalent) in geophysics or geoscience and either a relevant postgraduate qualification or significant postgraduate experience in Earth ScienceUp-to-date specialist knowledge in depth and breadth of one or more core geophysical or quantitative geoscientific subjects, consistent with their delivery to honours levelAble to demonstrate the ability to teach geophysics or quantitative geoscience effectively at undergraduate level, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively to undergraduates in an engaging mannerAble to demonstrate the ability and enthusiasm to supervise undergraduate geophysical field trips and independent projectsA demonstrable understanding of equality, diversity, inclusivity, and culture as they relate to this role and the higher education environmentExcellent written and oral communication skills, including accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation and good attention to detail
