Teaching Fellow in Geophysics and Quantitative Geoscience

We are seeking an enthusiastic geophysicist or geoscientist to join our team as a Teaching Fellow in Geophysics and Quantitative Geoscience. As a member of our academic staff, you will contribute to the delivery of geophysics and quantitative geoscience courses, working closely with our Director of Undergraduate Studies and teaching staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach geophysics and quantitative geoscience courses to undergraduate students, including lectures, seminars, and academic tutorials.
  • Plan and deliver geophysical field studies, providing students with hands-on experience in the field.
  • Act as a personal tutor, supporting students with their academic, personal, and professional development, and with pastoral matters.
  • Develop and maintain your teaching and learning skills, staying up-to-date with best practices in education.
Requirements
  • A first degree (or equivalent) in geophysics or geoscience, and either a relevant postgraduate qualification or significant postgraduate experience in Earth Science.
  • Up-to-date specialist knowledge in geophysics or quantitative geoscience, consistent with the delivery of courses to honours level.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to teach geophysics or quantitative geoscience effectively at undergraduate level, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively to students.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability and enthusiasm to supervise undergraduate geophysical field trips and independent projects.
  • A demonstrable understanding of equality, diversity, inclusivity, and culture as they relate to this role and the higher education environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including accurate grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and good attention to detail.
