Position Overview

The Geophysical Data Technologist will play a crucial role in providing extensive technical assistance to the Geoscience and Exploration teams based in London. The primary focus will be on managing the geophysical database and its associated applications. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure skill development and proficiency in the role.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating effectively with the data management and application support teams within the Geoscience department.
  • Facilitating the loading and transfer of seismic and well data to and from Petrel, Kingdom databases, and other relevant applications as dictated by business requirements.
  • Supporting geophysicists and geoscientists by managing the data they require to fulfill their responsibilities and providing appropriate application support.
  • Conducting thorough reviews and verifications of complete data set acquisitions to ensure accuracy and consistency, in alignment with management guidelines.
  • Overseeing the loading, transfer, and management of data across various databases and applications.
  • Coordinating with internal teams and external service providers to manage software usage and licensing while offering necessary technical support.
  • Assisting with the administration and manipulation of geophysical data, as well as the creation of project templates and reference projects under guidance.
  • Reviewing, correcting, and repairing existing projects and databases.
  • Facilitating the conversion of acquisition data to meet company standards by clearly communicating requirements to providers and conducting thorough spot-checks of data conversions.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • A degree in a scientific, engineering, mathematics, or related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • A strong capability to learn new software and methodologies, combined with a desire to advance a career in data management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work.
  • Knowledge of data management practices, data clean-up, quality control, and data loading processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, ensuring the quality of data entry that supports the work of Geophysicists and Geologists.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a technical support or data management role.
  • A degree in geosciences or equivalent experience.
  • Cross-disciplinary knowledge within the subsurface domain, including Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Petrophysics, and Wells.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SQL, Python, and other programming languages and tools.
