As a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist (OT) you will be responsible for the provision of assessment and therapy for children aged 0-5 referred to the Lighthouse Child Development Centre. There is scope to work with older children too.

You will work collaboratively with the wider paediatric therapy team such as Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Community Paediatricians.

Our existing team of Occupational Therapists will provide excellent peer support, and offer a significant amount of experience in this area, and so personal and professional development will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, Occupational Therapist for pre-school or school age will take a delegated role in the day to day co-ordination and provision of a highly specialist Occupational Therapy service to a caseload of children and young people (CYP) with complex special needs and Neurodevelopmental Autism in 0-19 service. The post holder provides a specialist, targeted and universal Occupational Therapy service to Children & Young People, providing assessment, reassurance, advice and treatment to children aged 0-18yrs. The post holder will be allocated to a working base but may also be required cover other geographical areas as and when required. The post holder independently undertakes highly specialist OT assessment and delivery of treatment packages to children with a diverse range of conditions, including motor co-ordination difficulties, complex and profound physical and cognitive disabilities cerebral palsy, ADHD, ASD and Learning Difficulties. These children may have highly complex clinical, social and psychological needs. The children/young people will be seen a variety of community settings, including patient's homes, nursery settings, special schools and mainstream schools within the South East Essex boundaries. The clinician will feed back assessment findings into a 'Multidisciplinary decision making process' regarding the final diagnosis of ASC/ASD.
