Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner to work within the medicine wards in Lakeside Wing, University Hospital of Wales. This unit provides proactive, co-ordinated assessment, rehabilitation,and complex discharge planning.

This role will be working with service users, through a range of interventions, to enable and empower individuals to achieve their recovery and rehabilitation goals.

The post holder will be working with inpatients, integrating physical health and well-being interventions that aligns with the Rehabilitation Model to support sustained postholder will lead on the co-ordination of the physiotherapy interventions delievered by the unregistered staff, as well as the exercise groups delivered in this area.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual who has a passion for delivering excellence in exercise prescription, can demonstrate positive communication and practical skills in order to enable person centered care and to motivate and engage service users to reach their goals. A problem solving approach is key as well as flexibility, inclusivity and adaptability to the changing demands of the clinical area. The individual must have had previous experience working within a therapy role and /or social or healthcare settings, and have relevant experience of therapeutic interventions.

The role will include carrying out independent assessments and interventions around exercise prescription, as well as carrying out delegated tasks from the physiotherapist, implementing and supporting group work, implementing individually tailored treatment plans and working on person centered goals as part of their recovery and treatment plan. This could include gym-based exercise 1:1, in pairs, or group work, tai chi, falls prevention, activities of daily living including hobbies and interests, mobility interventions, and exercise programmes.

The physiotherapy team operates a full induction programme, on the job training, regular supervision, appraisal and development opportunities.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Numerate and literate to GCSE level grades (A to C) or level 11 equivalent qualification or recognised qualification Recognised qualification NVQ/QCF level 4 or level 3+, Agored Cymru or equivalent. Additional training to diploma level or equivalent, or equivalent through short courses and experiences and equivalent competencies achieved and evidenced through accredited courses
